Bloober Team has finally provided an update on Layers of Fears, its next title in the Layers of Fear franchise. Instead of launching in early 2023, it’s now out in June for Xbox Series X/S, PS5 and PC. It’s also renamed to, curiously enough, Layers of Fear, which also happens to be the name of the first game.
The story involves entering a “lone and ghastly lighthouse” to discover a “never-told-before tale” which presumably ties the series together. Interestingly, Layers of Fear seems like an enhanced compilation of Layers of Fear (2016), the Inheritance DLC and Layers of Fear 2.
There are new mechanics and horrors to experience and a brand new chapter, “The Final Note.” This chapter is from the perspective of the Painter’s wife from the first game and expands on the story further.
Strange as it all sounds, it does fit the developer’s description of the title building “on the foundations of the franchise’s previous entries” and serving as a “reimagination of the overall narrative structure connecting them all.” Of course, the visuals are overhauled thanks to Unreal Engine 5 with ray tracing, HDR, 4K support and more.
Stay tuned for more details and hopefully some clarification in the coming months.
