Microsoft’s initiative to enhance older, backward compatible Xbox and Xbox 360 games for Xbox One X has sort of been laying low recently, with no new game having been announced for inclusion for a while. However, today, Microsoft announced a whole bunch of new, beloved games to be added to the list.
These games are all Valve titles—Portal, Left 4 Dead, Left 4 Dead 2, and The Orange Box (which means we also get Team Fortress 2, Half Life 2, Half Life 2: Episode 1, and Half Life 2: Episode 2 enhanced, since they comprise The Orange Box). Basically, this means that the emulator on Xbox One X will be able to run these games at nine times the original pixel count, without any touching of the base game code necessary. These will be the best possible console versions for these games (the best versions will, of course, all be on PC).
All these games can be bought on the Xbox Store for $20 each. If you want to play more beloved games enhanced for Xbox One X, the original Red Dead Redemption got an extremely impressive update to support Microsoft’s superpowered console, too.
