Hangar 13 haven’t exactly had the best track record with the Mafia franchise, though they will be hoping that the upcoming remake of the first game, Mafia: Definitive Edition, will do justice to the beloved 2002 crime epic. But while fans of the series are obviously looking forward to the game, many are wondering what’s in store for the franchise beyond that. To be more specific, when can we expect a Mafia 4?
Speaking in an interview with SegmentNext, Hangar 13 said that if the upcoming Mafia: Definitive Edition should do well, they would love to be able to move on to new installment in the series- though for now, they are focused on a new unannounced AAA game (which we know from job listings is going to be a new open world IP).
“We hope fans enjoy Definitive Edition,” the developer said. “If it does well, we may be able to channel our energy towards a new installment. I know our team would be thrilled to make another Mafia game if the opportunity arises. In the meantime, we are working on another project. I can’t tell you anything about it yet, but suffice to say, we’re excited about it.”
Publisher 2K Games’ parent company Take-Two Interactive obviously sees plenty of value in the Mafia IP, so hopefully, we’ll see more games from the series in the not-so-distant future.
Mafia: Definitive Edition launches for PS4, Xbox One, and PC on September 25.
