Yesterday we reported that Hideo Kojima’s Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain will be receiving a major announcement on Wednesday. Many publications including us believe that this announcement will be finally revealing the game’s release date. Given that Kojima has trolled players in the past, it’s best to keep our expectations low as this could be yet another troll attempt by Hideo. But it seems that this time, the deal is for real.
Konami employee, Tora Shiro who has been pretty vocal in the past regarding how annoyed he is regarding the lack of release date, has dropped big hint in the form of a GIF on NeoGaf that more or less confirms that Kojima is done with trolling and we will finally have the release date tomorrow. As we have previously reported, the game’s development was complete and Kojima Productions have been debugging, testing and playing through the game to make it as polished as possible.
Another interesting thing to note is that two retailers have listed the game’s release date as June 23rd, 2015. Coincidentally, June 23rd is a Tuesday, a day on which most AAA games get released. It must be noted that this could be merely a placeholder but the timing seems just about right. If you remember, the release date for Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots was announced during the last week of February 2008 and it eventually launched on June 12th, 2008. So if we apply the same logistics to the date above, then yes, June 23rd sounds plausible. But take this with a grain of salt as it’s best to wait for an official announcement.
With less than 24 hours to go before the big announcement, let’s just hope this is not another troll by Kojima or something that is similar to the Chicken Hat nonsense we got in December of 2014.
Whatever it turns out to be, we will make sure to keep you updated.
