Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain Producer Denies Graphics Downgrade Claims

Ken-ichiro Imaizumi points out that grading changes don't occur in the last phase of development.

Kojima Productions’ Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain is the latest to be struck by accusations of graphical downgrades. This follows gameplay footage showcased recently which presented an “alternate” infiltration of sorts. Some pointed out that downgrades in shadow quality and textures had occurred.

Producer Ken-ichiro Imaizumi denied the downgrade claims, stating on Twitter that, “If you know game making process. We normally don’t change or downgrade in this phase. Always have to be comes first.”

As a user brought up the lack of shadows and sallow colours, Imaizumi replied that, “We don’t change grade system in last phase, it have to be done long long time ago. Should be just lighting tuning.”

Another user noted that the resolution of shadows was actually improved from the demo showcased at E3. Imaizumi’s response was, “We’ve been always trying to improve until the dead line.”

Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain is less than two months from release so it would be odd to see a downgrade right after E3 2015. We’ll find out for ourselves when the game releases on September 1st for consoles.
