Hideo Kojima may not be with Konami any longer (neither Kojima nor Konami are confirming as much officially) but Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain has become one of his greatest successes for the company yet. In a financial report covering results for the fiscal quarter ending on September 30th, Konami revealed that Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain shipped five million copies.
This includes digital downloads and when you consider that its release was on September 1st, it achieved this feat within its first month of launch. Konami’s Digital Entertainment division also saw a significant increase ¥51.7 billion ($428 million) in this six month period compared to ¥44 billion during the same period last year. Net profit came ¥7.8 billion ($64 million).
Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain’s other big success story was its global launch day revenue which was more than double that of Avengers: Age of Ultron. The game is currently available on Xbox One, PS4, PS3, PC and Xbox 360.
