We reported earlier this week that a PS4 Pro patch for Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain is releasing, but we also specified that we don’t actually know much of what it does. Thankfully, it seems like Digital Foundry has dug into the updates for us, and they have discovered that it does… well, not much, really.
Describing the update as ‘barebones’, Digital Foundry specifies that the update bumps up the resolution of the game to 1440p on the PS4 Pro, with no enhancements made to the textures, and no checkerboard rendering. So basically, the absolute bare necessities, and not much else, sadly. This doesn’t fill me with much confidence for a potential Xbox One X enhancements update to the game, either.
Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain launched in October on PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, Xbox One, and PC. It will be followed up next year by Metal Gear Survive, which will launch on Xbox One, PS4, and PC.
