Monster Hunter World: Iceborne’s Story Continues After Monster Hunter World

Players should prepare for yet another contrivance setting them on the path to some good old fashioned monster hunting.

Yesterday, Capcom announced Monster Hunter World: Iceborne, brand new expansion for the superhit game, that will be equivalent to the “Ultimate” variants of previous games. However, players of Monster Hunter World may have had one nagging question in their mind—how would the game reconcile the new expansion with its story, which very definitively concludes at the end of Monster Hunter World’s campaign?

The answer is simple—Iceborne has a new story, one that is set after Monster Hunter World, producer Ryozo Tsujimoto revealed in an interview with PlayStation Japan, which you can see for yourself below. Which makes sense, although I hope they don’t make it too contrived—for all its other faults, the story in World wraps up neatly at the end, and the last thing we want is the game making up another reason for you to be hunting monsters yet again.

Then again, I have to imagine that the game won’t even bother contextualizing its crossover with The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, so maybe it’s about time I stop putting so much thought into the story.
