NCSOFT’s action-adventure title Project M was showcased during the State of Unreal presentation at GDC 2023, highlighting Unreal Engine 5’s features. It starts with a digital version of chief creative officer Taekjin Kim, created using the company’s AI text-to-speech. The facial expressions and lip-sync are possible courtesy of its “voice-to-face technology.”
As for Project M, it’s an interactive title not unlike Detroit: Become Human, where the player makes choices in different scenes. Each branch off in unique ways, so using a gun suddenly changes the game into a third-person shooter.
With “informational particles,” the player can “simulate the momentarily provided time and space.” Blending the past, present and future in different spaces looks interesting, and the visuals are fantastic, thanks to Unreal Engine 5.
Project M is in development for consoles with no release date yet. Stay tuned for more details and check out announcements from the State of Unreal, including a new trailer showcasing facial animation in Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2 and technical showcase for Lords of the Fallen.
