Next Gen Will Be Awesome Across The Board, Says Todd Howard

The Bethesda man is excited about the future of PlayStation and Xbox.

Many high profile developers have come out to speak of the next generation of consoles, and how they’re looking forward to get their hands on the new hardware it will bring along- if Sony’s ambitions with things such as their SSD are anything to go by, there’s certainly a great deal to look forward to.

Another person who falls in that camp of optimism surrounding the next generation is Bethesda man Todd Howard (who regularly brings to you The Elder Scrolls and Fallout titles). Though he can’t yet say too much about the PS5 and the next Xbox themselves (bound as he is by NDAs), he still has much to say. As per Howard, Sony and Microsoft are both making all the right moves, not just with respect to the hardware that they’re working on and the improvements said hardware will be making over existing consoles, but also in terms of how to approach developers and audiences.

“They’re doing the right things,” Howard said while speaking with IGN. “In my mind, no one is screwing up at the starting line, which some people have done before. I think everybody has learned their lessons in some good ways and in some hard ways. They’re very, very thoughtful about their audience and the developers. I think my view of it is it’s going to be awesome across the board. Not just the systems, but the business models.”

Todd Howard and his team at Bethesda Game Studios are currently working on Starfield and The Elder Scrolls 6both of which are said to be slated for next gen consoles (the latter definitely is, at the very least), so it should be interesting to see how both games leverage the capabilities of the new hardware we’re bound to see soon.

Meawhile, Howard recently also spoke of the negative reception to Fallout 76, and how Bethesda had expected that it would happen (to some extent, at least). Read more on that through here.
