Nintendo Switch Tops The NPD Group’s June 2019 Hardware Sales Charts

The Switch is the only platform currently showing year-on-year growth, as per the NPD Group.

Though hardware sales in the United States are down, with Microsoft and Sony seeing drops for June 2019, Nintendo is on the rise. According to the NPD Group’s June 2019 sales charts (as per Venture Beat), the Nintendo Switch was the best-selling hardware in both dollar and unit sales. This makes it the best-selling console in 2019’s first half.

Of course, given that the PS4 and Xbox One are older, it makes sense that less consumers would have a Switch. Besides, Microsoft is transitioning to Project Scarlett for Holiday 2020, while Sony is preparing the PlayStation 5 for what seems to be late 2020 release. Within this period, it’s the Switch’s time to shine. As analyst Mat Piscatella noted, “Nintendo Switch is the only platform showing year-on-year growth.”

Hardware spending in June 2019 was at $235 million, down overall by 33 percent year-on-year (it was $350 million in June 2018). Accessories averaged $338 million in sales, down 7 percent year-on-year, while PC and console software sales were at $386 million, down 1 percent. Overall spending for the month hit $959 million, compared to $1.1 billion in June 2018, which meant a 13 percent decrease year-on-year.
