At first glance it looks like People Can Fly are attempting to enter the looter-shooter space with the Destinies and Divisions of the industry, but the developers themselves are adamant that that’s not what they’re doing. Viewing their game as an RPG instead of a looter, as more Diablo than Destiny, People Can Fly seem to have a very specific vision for the game, one that won’t allow for live service approach to post-launch content either.
Something else that doesn’t seem to fit that vision is PvP multiplayer. Though working together with other players to overcome the challenges Outriders will throw at you will be a crucial part of the experience, working against each other isn’t something that the gam will let players do. And in fact, as stated by creative director Bartek Kmita in an interview with Well-Played, People Can Fly have no plans to add PvP to the game at this moment.
“There are no plans for PvP in Outriders at this point,” he said. “We talked about it early on in development of course, but we decided from the beginning that we wanted to do a focused PvE experience with Outriders. This allows us to go crazy on amazing powers, have a really open character progression system where players can be super creative with their builds, and focus on delivering a great campaign, full of content and side-activities.”
Of course, that doesn’t mean that PvP isn’t something that Outriders simply will not ever have – the developers may very well add a PvP component into the game post-launch, especially if there’s demand for it from the community – but it is, nonetheless, good to see that People Can Fly have identified what they want their game to focus on, and are not allowing themselves to be distracted by something they don’t think adds anything to that vision for the game. The campaign itself is reportedly over 60 hours long, with endgame content on top, so it’s not like there will be a lack of things to do in the absence of PvP.
Outriders releases later this year for PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X, Xbox One, and PC, though a more specific launch date is yet to be confirmed. It was recently announced that the game would also be coming to Stadia.
