Overwatch 2 Will be Free-to-Play – Rumour

A prominent leaker is strongly hinting that the upcoming hero shooter sequel will be free-to-play. An Overwatch 2 live stream is set for June 16.

The Snitch has emerged as one of the more prominent leakers out of nowhere this last week or so, having accurately leaked a number of major announcements these last few days, from The Last of Us Part 1 to the entire lineup of the recent State of Play broadcast. They’re back again now, with another leak for a major upcoming game.

Referring to the instantly recognizable “We Are Overwatch” cinematic teaser associated with Blizzard’s hero shooter, The Snitch is strongly hinting that Overwatch 2 will be free-to-play, ending their tweet with “We are free to play.” While the tweet could also have been referring to the original Overwatch going permanently free-to-play, one of The Snitch’s recently liked tweets makes it clear that this tease in particular is about the sequel.

An Overwatch 2 stream is set for later this week on June 16, and senior game designer Dylan Snyder recently said that fans will be “very pleased” with it. Whether that means Overwatch 2 will be free-to-play will be announced there remains to be seen, but given The Snitch’s track record, it sure seems that way.

Overwatch 2 is in development for PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC, though there’s been no word yet on native current-gen versions. Make sure to read our impressions of the game’s recent closed beta through here.
