PC Gaming To Dominate Market In Next Few Years – Analyst

While the Xbox One, PS4 and to a lesser extent the Wii U are all battling it out in order to win the console wars, it appears the PC market is going to be winning the overall games market, at least for the forseeable future. Industry analyst DFC Intelligence is going to be presenting new research at this year’s GDC that shows that the PC market is going to be helped quite a bit by the arrival of VR.

eSports is going to be another factor in the success of the PC market though the analyst was careful to lay out that the gaming business in general is going to be quite lucrative. According to Gamesindustry.biz, the analyst is saying  thatthe gaming market is going to top $100 billion in revenue by the end of 2019. This number will be led in large part by the PC, which will see $36 billion all on its own. If PC gaming does hit that number it would be a 28 percent increase from the $28 billion generated in 2015.

“A major driver of industry growth is not just software but hardware,” said DFC analyst David Cole. “The emergence of eSports and virtual reality is driving consumers to buy high end PC systems to not only play games, but watch others playing games.” It should be noted that this is hardly the first time PC gaming has been said to be dominating the market in recent years. Despite the fact that both the PS4 and the Xbox One are doing well in sales, PC Gaming was still said to be growing faster than both.
