Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake Development is “Progressing”, Passes “Important Internal Development Milestone”

Development on the project was handed over to Ubisoft Montreal in May of last year.

In May last year, Ubisoft announced that it had taken the development of Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake off of its Mumbai and Pune studios and instead handed the project over to Ubisoft Montreal, the studio behind the original 2003 title, following which the remake had also been indefinitely delayed. And though updates on its development have been scant since then, Ubisoft says that work is progressing steadily behind-the-scenes.

In a recent tweet celebrating the original Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time’s 20th anniversary, Ubisoft provided a brief update on its remake, stating that it is continuing to make progress behind the scenes, and that development on the project recently also hit an “important internal milestone”.

“As you know, the passionate team at Ubisoft Montreal is reimagining this legendary story, and we are glad to announce today that the project has passed an important internal milestone and development is progressing,” the publisher wrote. “We look forward to sharing more in the future!”

Though it looks like the wait for The Sands of Time Remake is going to stretch on a little longer, fans of the series do still have something to look forward to in the near future nonetheless, with sidescrolling Metroidvania action-adventure title Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown set to launch on January 18.
