In an interview with Eurogamer, CD Projekt RED Lead Engine Programmer Balázs Török talked about the ease of development on the Xbox One and PS4 in light of the studio’s upcoming open world RPG epic The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt.
“The Xbox One is pretty easy to understand because not just the hardware is similar to the PC, but everything like the SDK, the API is really similar to what you would find on a PC. On PS4 this is a little bit more complicated, but I personally worked on PS3 before.”
It’s still easier to develop on the PS4 in comparison though, thanks to its x86-based architecture. “For PS3 it was very important to have a community, to share the information in some ways, but for now it’s much easier and everyone will use their PC knowledge and possible previous console knowledge to reach the limit.”
It’ll be interesting to see how this pans out when The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt releases. It’s currently slated for release on PS4, Xbox One and PC in 2014.
