Sony had a killer lineup of games to show off at their recent PS5 reveal stream, one that encompassed all manner of games. And while major third party reveals like Resident Evil Village and Hitman 3 turned a lot of heads, what was really impressive was how many big first party exclusives Sony brought to the show as well.
What was most impressive about their lineup was how many different kinds of games it covered. From major AAA reveals like Horizon Forbidden West, Demon’s Souls, and Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, to long-awaited sequels of classic PlayStation franchises like Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart and Gran Turismo 7, to smaller yet excellent looking games like Sackboy: A Big Adventure and Returnal, there really was a little something for everyone in Sony’s lineup of reveals.
And according to PlayStation CEO Jim Ryan, this is just the beginning. Speaking to BBC, after talking about the variety of games Sony recently presented, Ryan said that there are still many more games in development for the PS5 that haven’t yet been revealed.
“We wanted triple-A games that would fully demonstrate the horsepower of the machine,” Ryan said. “But some of these smaller games are making very cool and innovative use of the new features of the console. So we allowed the show to give a sense of the sheer range of gameplay experience that will be available on PlayStation 5. And this is just the start. There are so many more games that we have in development.”
PlayStation Studios’ massive wealth of properties and talents is certainly the strongest tool Sony has in its arsenal with the PS5, and the fact that they’ve still got much more to show and talk about is exciting. One would assume the likes of God of War 2, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, Days Gone 2, and whatever Naughty Dog will work on next will be major new announcements in the coming years.
