Redfall – Campaign Progress in Co-op is Tied to Host

Non-host players won't receive any progress in their campaigns when playing co-op, though loot and XP can still be earned.

Arkane Studios has revealed tons of new information for its open-world shooter Redfall following its recent gameplay reveal. In new interview with IGN, game designer Harvey Smith spoke about features like Grave Locks, Psychic Nests, and co-op. For co-op, levels scale to the host, which means lower-level players can face tougher foes (but gain more XP in the process).

Unfortunately, campaign progress is tied to the host. This means that non-host players completing missions online in co-op won’t make progress in their campaigns. As for why, Smith said, “So for the flow of things, you want to have to redo those. The story would be very confusing if you got to mission eight and it said, ‘skip this one because you’ve already done it.'”

While the developer tried to give players “credit” for completing levels when another player is the host. The problem is that the same mission would then come up again, either when playing solo or when hosting one’s session for co-op. Loot and XP will still carry over to your campaign though so there is some worth in running with friends.
