Redfall Will be Arkane’s “Most Supported Game Post-Launch”

"We have plans for additional guns, costumes, monsters, characters, and more that we can't talk about right now," says creative director Harvey Smith.

From its open world approach to its focus on co-op gameplay, Redfall is doing plenty that’s typically been out of developer Arkane Studios’ wheelhouse, but the studio seems as determined as ever to deliver an experience that can stand toe-to-toe with its past titles like Dishonored and Prey. And while the bulk of that will obviously be down to the content it will pack in at launch, there’s plenty else that’s currently in the pipeline that will arrive once the game is out.

In fact, speaking in a recent interview with Wccftech, creative director Harvey Smith revealed that Redfall will be Arkane Studios’ “most supported game” as far as its post-launch content is confirmed. This will, of course, entail updates to tweak the game’s existing content and systems in response to feedback and data from players, courtesy of its new server model, but beyond that, players can also look forward to new playable characters, weapons, costumes, enemies, and more.

Redfall will be our most supported game post-launch,” Smith said. “We went with a server model, so we can update the game constantly. If we see a lot of people falling from ladders and dying, we can update the ladder code. If we see that nobody is playing this character, we can tweak this character and make them more appealing. We have plans for additional guns, costumes, monsters, characters, and more that we can’t talk about right now. But we have a strong year of updates, and it’s all either in the current game or it will be DLC. We try to do it as fairly as possible for people.”

Exactly what form this DLC will take and what cadence Arkane will choose to release it at remains to be seen, but it’s clear that the developer has plenty of content planned for the game to ensure that players keep coming back for more long after it’s released.

Meanwhile, Smith also reiterated that there will be no microtransactions in Redfall, and all cosmetics will be earnable through gameplay.

Smith has also confirmed that Arkane is working on removing the game’s always-online requirement for single player.
