Resident Evil 2 Updated With Resident Evil 3-Related Achievement

A link between the two games come in a mysterious new achievement.

If you’re a Resident Evil fan, it’s fair to say that right now, you’re feasting. Not only did we get a fantastic remake of Resident Evil 2 to kick off 2019, a remake in a similar vein of Resident Evil 3 is coming early 2020 along with new and unique multiplayer mode attached to it. It seems there may be some yet unannounced connecting tissue between the two as well.

We reported earlier that seemingly random achievement was added to the Steam version of Resident Evil 2 (this was before RE3 was officially unveiled). At that point it was just a generic placeholder, but now it’s been updated to show the achievement is related in some way to Resident Evil 3. It is an achievement for picking up a letter from Jill, the main protagonist of 3.

The update has, thus far, only popped up in the Steam version, and it’s not clear if whatever it relates to has actually been patched in yet (as of now, no one has managed to find how to unlock it if it has). Allegedly, at one point the two games were going to be released together, and the two are directly connected narrative-wise, so it makes sense for there to be some type of connection between them. Whether it will be anything substantial, like new DLC, or just simply a file written by Jill you randomly find similar to what the N64 re-release of RE2 did back in the day to connect the titles remains to be seen.
