Resident Evil 3 ESRB Rating Promises A Bloody And Violent Time

And would you want it any other way?

We are just one month away from reliving the classic Resident Evil 3 with a new remake. The game promises a recreation that stays true to the feel of the original game, with modernized gameplay and controls as well as reinvented Raccoon City. It’s also going to be a bloody, bloody affair.

The game got its official ESRB rating today. Of course, it got the M rating, as almost all games in the franchise have. It describes the brutality you’ll be facing, including executions, violent deaths, and exposed organs. While the series has always been bloody one, with plenty of mutated messes, it also has somewhat downplayed the violence towards living characters. The lack of decapitations or skin melting acid of whoever the chosen protagonist is, for instance, has been lacking for several years. We’ve actually already seen some footage of Resident Evil 3 where Jill gets attacked in some pretty gruesome ways, so we might be ready to bring this back up to 11.

“This is survival-horror action game in which players assume the role of a special units member (Jill Valentine) as she tries to escape a zombie outbreak,” reads the rating. “From a third-person perspective, players traverse various environments (e.g., subways, city streets, building corridors) as they avoid being attacked by zombies and large enemy creatures. Players use pistols, machine guns, shotguns, and explosives to defend themselves and kill creatures. Some attacks result in decapitation and/or dismemberment of enemies, often accompanied by large splatters of blood. Cutscenes depict additional acts of violence: a man executed at close range; a character impaled through the chest by a creature’s tentacle. A handful of areas depict mutilated corpses/zombies with exposed organs and viscera.”

That’s some rough stuff. But I’m sure fans can stomach it when the game launches on April 3rd in all its nasty, bloody glory for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
