One of the things that most add tension to a video game is the spacing of save points- of save points are spaced apart pretty far from each other, then each death will cost you a lot, meaning there are higher stakes involved. This is the principle that Bloodborne and Dark Souls used to great effect, and it is something that Resident Evil used to do a lot of, too.
So of course, with Resident Evil 7 attempting to return to the horror roots of the series, it makes sense that the game will reuse these same old principles again. One of the new videos for the game that Capcom released today shows us how the save points will work in this game.
Another video shows off some more gameplay, including an attempt to open up a chest with a knife. For some reason, this video is putting me on edge and making me really tense.
Resident Evil 7 is due out in January on Xbox One, PS4, and PC.
