The wait for S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl has been a long one, and as has been the case for a few months now, there isn’t much clarity on when exactly the highly anticipated open world shooter is going to launch. It seems, however, that it’s release date may have leaked ahead of a potential upcoming announcement.
Distributor Plaion recently updated the page for S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 on its online store, which now states that it will launch on December 1 (spotted by @the_marmolade on Twitter). Interestingly enough, most placeholder dates on the site are mentioned as December 31, while December 1 also happens to be a Friday, further lending credence to the possibility that the mentioned launch date for GSC Game World’s survival horror shooter might be accurate. S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl is set to be part of Xbox’s sizeable lineup of games at Gamescom later this month, so it’s possible that we might be hearing more about its official release date soon.
S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl was previously set to release in December 2022 (following delay from April that year), before eventually getting pushed into 2023. That was due in large part to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, which is where GSC Game World is based, following which the developer had to put development on pause, resuming some months later with a part of its team having relocated to Prague.
Though GSC Game World hasn’t shared new updates on when the game will launch in some time, in September last year, it stressed that it would be releasing sometime in 2023.
S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl is in development for Xbox Series X/S and PC.
