Sea of Thieves Will Get Alliance Feature With Upcoming Update

Now you can formally band up together in Sea of Thieves.

To Rare’s credit, after the immensely mixed reception that Sea of Thieves has gotten since its initial release, they have been working at it to add more- well, anything, to the game, really. It was really kind of bare the first time around, you see.

That said, this one specific feature they are adding in the upcoming Cursed Sails update is going to be right in line with the spirit of spontaneous camaraderie and cooperation that Rare so wants to imbibe through it. You can check out the video introducing it below, but a lot of specifics of how it might all work are unknown for now- for example, how will loot be distributed, exactly? What about faction XP? How do they handle griefing via betrayals?

That said, it’s definitely something else to add to the game to keep things fresh and unpredictable, so I give them props for that. It should help players combat those skeleton ships, if nothing else. Sea of Thieves is out now on Xbox One and Windows 10 PCs, and Microsoft and Rare have lots more content planned for the game before the year is out.
