Skull and Bones Gameplay Deep Dive Details Sailing Physics, On-Land Gameplay, Exploration, and More

An extensive new gameplay deep dive details various aspects of Ubisoft's upcoming open world pirate game.

Skull and Bones will finally see the light of day when it launches in November, and ahead of its launch, Ubisoft has, after long and turbulent development cycle, been unveiling new details on the open world online pirate title. In a new gameplay deep dive published by IGN, Skull and Bones’ developers have provided additional details on the game, focusing primarily on what exploring the world of Skull and Bones will be like.

Being focused first and foremost on sailing around the Indian Ocean as a pirate, Skull and Bones is, of course, going to have plenty of water in its map for players to traverse through, and Ubisoft says it’s put a great deal of work into that particular aspect. Sailing is based on physics properties like buoyancy and drag, which will affect how different ships move, so each ship will feel different.

The weight of items in your ship’s hold and the direction of the wind will also be factors. Meanwhile, the game will also feature diverse weather systems, including supercell storms, and how well you make it through storms in your path will depend on how your ship is built, equipped, and customized.

The game’s world will also be scattered with various outposts where you can meet NPCs and traders. Interestingly, characters in Skull and Bones won’t stay in the same location for too long, and players will routinely have to check the map to see where traders, smugglers, and trade routes are.

The video also goes into further details about customization and side activities, on-land gameplay, world design and environmental variety, biome diversity, and much more. Check it out below.

Skull and Bones launches on November 8 for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PC, and Stadia.
