Despite going up against God of War Ragnarok last month, Sonic Team’s Sonic Frontiers has performed very well. In a new tweet, publisher Sega confirmed that the 3D platform sold over 2.5 million copies worldwide. It’s good news since this is the first mainline Sonic title since 2017’s Sonic Forces.
Frontiers will also serve as the “cornerstone” of future titles in the series, said Sonic Team head Takashi Iizuka. Of course, that’s in the future, as the development team has plenty of content planned in 2023 for the current game.
The first update adds a Juke Box, Photo Mode and Challenge Modes, while the next will celebrate Sonic’s birthday and adds new Koco, and Open Zone Challenges. Update 3 is perhaps the most anticipated since it offers new playable characters and story content. None of the updates have been dated, so stay tuned for more details in the coming months.
Sonic Frontiers is available for Xbox One, PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PC, and Nintendo Switch. Check out our review here.
