June is usually the time when most major publishers in the industry decide to do big blowouts on things that they’ve got cooking up, and many have been hoping that Sony, too, will have something to show soon. While it remains to be seen whether Sony will have a dedicate showcase event coming in the near future, the company has confirmed the next best thing, at the very least.
A new State of Play presentation has been announced, and it’s coming soon. The broadcast is set for next week, on June 2, at 3 PM Pacific / 6 PM Eastern / 12:00 AM CET. And what can we expect from the show? It will be nearly 30 minutes long, for starters, and Sony says it will feature new reveals, announcements, and updates, which will also include “exciting reveals from our third-party partners.”
Interestingly, the State of Play broadcast will also offer “a sneak peek at several games in development for PlayStation VR2”, so that’s something that recent reports got right. No launch window has been announced for the next-gen virtual reality headset, though reports have claimed it could release sometime in early 2023. Sony recently stated that it would release with over 20 1st and 3rd party launch titles. So far, Horizon Call of the Mountain has been announced for the device, though a release window for it hasn’t been confirmed.
On the PS5 side of things, it’ll be interesting to see whether a launch date for God of War Ragnarok gets announced, especially with recent developments indicating that it could launch sometime in September or October. The Last of Us’ remake is also rumoured to release later this year, though with Sony also allegedly preparing showcase event for September, it’s possible that the company will be saving some of its bigger reveals and updates.
