PSVR2 Will Launch in Q1 2023 – Rumour

A new leak claims that the next-gen virtual reality is going to launch a little later than expected, in the early months of 2023.

Over the last few weeks, Sony has been teasing out new details on the PSVR2, and from its controllers to the headset and its specs, plenty has been revealed so far. Of course, the overriding question on everybody’s mind is- when is the next-gen VR headset going to launch.

Many have speculated (and hoped) that PlayStation VR2 will launch in Holiday 2022, which is something that leaks have previously claimed as well- though it seems the timeline for its release might be a little different. PSVR Without Parole, a YouTube channel that has accurately leaked PSVR2 details in the past, recently uploaded a video in which they claim that according to several of their sources, the headset is instead going to launch in Q1 of 2023.

Apparently, with the PS5’s supplies still being heavily constrained due to global semiconductor shortages, Sony wants to take the time for the console to be more readily available to the masses before launching the PSVR2, while the additional few months will also allow the company to manufacture more of the headset itself as well.

These are, of course, unconfirmed and unofficial details, so remember to treat them as such for now. Given the fact that we have been getting details on the PSVR2 at a pretty steady clip of late, it’s possible that we might get official word on its release window soon- especially with a big PlayStation event allegedly set for March.

Whether or not we’ll hear more about the headset’s games in the near future – from the officially announced Horizon Call of the Mountain to the rumoured Half-Life: Alyx port – and if we can expect it to have backward compatibility support with the original PSVR remains to be seen.
