Guard Crush's acclaimed beat 'em up finally arrives for Xbox, but you can also look forward to Disco Elysium and The Long Dark.

The second wave of Game Pass for March has been revealed, and in case you thought Microsoft couldn’t top the addition of Cyberpunk 2077, think again. It kicks off on March 18th with South of Midnight and The Alters becoming available on Game Pass Premium for cloud, console and PC players. Things quickly escalate on March 19th with the arrival of Disco Elysium: The Final Cut for all three tiers.

On March 24th, Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth will finally be added to the service for Ultimate, Premium and PC subscribers. Guard Crush Games’ Absolum follows on March 25th, which also marks the acclaimed rogue-lite beat ’em up’s debut on Xbox Series X/S.

Nova Roma, a city-building title from Lion Shield, will premiere in Game Preview for Ultimate and PC Game Pass subscribers, coinciding with its early access release. Survival crafting fans can look forward to The Long Dark becoming available on March 30th for Premium, PC, and Ultimate. Finally, Resident Evil 7: biohazard will be playable on March 31st, joining the Resident Evil Village.

But wait, there’s more. Barbie Horse Trails kicks off next month alongside Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, the latter finally available to Premium subscribers. If that wasn’t enough, Square Enix’s march to include every single mainline Final Fantasy title on Game Pass seemingly continues with Final Fantasy 4 on April 7th.

Surprisingly, only two games will be leaving the service on March 31st. Check them out below:

Peppa Pig World Adventures (Cloud, Console, PC)

Mad Streets (Cloud, Console, PC)

Final Fantasy 4 Pixel Remaster is now available worldwide for PC, iOS, and Android, and will have a 20% sale until later this month.

Square Enix’s announcement of Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster at E3 may not have been very well received, but the actual collection has gained some momentum, especially with the launch of the Pixel Remasters of the first three games, which turned out to be really rather good. And of course, the package’s staggered launch is continuing.

Final Fantasy 4 Pixel Remaster is now available for PC, iOS, and Android worldwide as well. The game features updated pixel graphics, a rearranged soundtrack, a modernized UI, an auto-battle option, and various other quality of life improvements. It costs $17.99, but you can get it for 20% less until September 23. Check out its launch trailer below.

There is, of course, no word yet on when the Pixel Remasters for Final Fantasy 5 and Final Fantasy 6 will be out, but seeing as there wasn’t much of a gap between the two releases so far, hopefully the remaining two will arrive quickly as well.

A couple of months ago, Square Enix said that Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster could launch for other platforms as well, given enough demand. Read more on that through here.

Revisit the tale of Cecil and Rydia with remastered sprites, the option to save anywhere, auto-battle and other quality of life improvements.

Following the release of the first three games in the Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster series, Square Enix has confirmed a release date for Final Fantasy 4. Its remaster is out on September 8th for PC and mobile platforms.

Originally released in 1991 for the Super Famicom, Final Fantasy 4 is set on the Blue Planet and focuses on Cecil of the Red Wings. After running afoul of the ruling king in Baron, he embarks on a journey with his friend Kain to deliver a ring. Eventually, the duo comes across Rydia who is capable of summoning the powerful Titan. Thus their journey across the world begins.

Along with fully remastered sprites by artist Kazuko Shibuya, Final Fantasy 4 Pixel Remaster will have a modern-looking UI, auto battle option, bestiary, music player and other quality of life improvements. Plus, you can save anywhere, making it that much easier to progress. Stay tuned for release dates of the remaining titles in the Pixel Remaster series in the coming days.

Each title's pixel art characters have been given the full remastered treatment by Square Enix veteran artist Kazuko Shibuya.

After unveiling Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster at its E3 2021 showcase with very little details, a recent presentation (as reported by Gematsu) by Square Enix has confirmed that the titles will begin releasing in July. Though the video has since been removed, it revealed a sequential order of releases for each game on iOS, Android and PC. Interestingly enough, series creator Hironobu Sakaguchi was present along with composer Nobuo Uematsu and producer Yoshinori Kitase.

The trio discussed the development of each game and the stories behind them. It was also confirmed that each title’s pixel art characters have been fully remastered courtesy of pixel artist Kazuko Shibuya, a veteran who’s been working on the franchise since Final Fantasy 1. The mention of “pixel art characters” seems to indicate that the backgrounds won’t be in the same style but that’s just conjecture.

A new trailer was revealed at the end of the presentation so expect that to go live sometime soon. Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster includes re-releases of Final Fantasy 1 to 6 with each title being available individually and in a complete bundle. Stay tuned for more details in the meantime.

Remasters of the first six classic RPG will be coming to iOS, Android and PC via Steam. Each remaster will also have individual releases.

It’s the season of remasters for classic Square Enix franchises and Final Fantasy is next on the list. Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster is coming to mobile platforms and PC via Steam and contains remasters of Final Fantasy 1 to 6. Not much else was revealed aside from each game being released individually as well so sit tight for any new details.

Though Square Enix didn’t outright confirm the same, Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster could take an HD-2D route in terms of their visuals. This was seen in the recently announced Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake and series creator Yuji Horii has said that he’d like to see similar remakes for Dragon Quest 1 and 2. Again, it’s all speculation as to whether Final Fantasy 1 to 6 are indeed being remastered in this way.

Square Enix will also be revisiting Final Fantasy 1’s world but from a different perspective in Stranger of Paradise Final Fantasy Origin. Developed by Team Ninja, the action hack and slash title is out in 2022 for Xbox Series X/S, PS5, Xbox One, PS4 and PC with a demo coming soon to PS5. Stay tuned for more details on that in the coming months as well.

Tearful reunions and heroic sacrifices alike define Square Enix's stellar RPG series.

The Final Fantasy series may tell a different story with each new sequel (exceptions abound, of course) but each of them has an incredible moment or two that stays with you. While cataloging each and every one of those will take a long, long while, let’s take a look at what we think are 15 of the most emotional moments from the entire series. Spoilers – and we mean major spoilers – for almost every game in the series abound.

Vivi’s Past – Final Fantasy 9

Final Fantasy 9’s cast has this ineffable charisma that makes it hard to not like them. Vivi the Black Mage is one example, being relatively kind but also easy to manipulate and down on himself more often than not. However, Vivi is actually a manufactured Black Mage, created in Dali by Alexandria as a prototype soldier and accidentally separated from his ilk. Upon reaching Dali and learning the truth – that its villagers are responsible for keeping the entire Black Mage production under wraps – Vivi becomes even less self-assured. When Black Waltz 3, a winged Black Mage, arrives to recapture Garnet, the other Black Mages attempt to protect Vivi despite initially capturing him. They all fall, leading to Vivi facing Black Waltz 3 and taking the first steps to defining his purpose throughout the journey.

Charting the highs and lows of Square Enix's flagship franchise.

Without question, Final Fantasy is one of the biggest video game franchises ever. Having been around since the NES days, the series has always been synonymous with grand, sweeping stories the likes of which very few other properties have been able to come close to in terms of quality, and there’s been more than a few Final Fantasy games that have gone down as generation- and genre-defining classics.

One of those classics will be getting a remake very soon (or, well, the first part of a remake, at any rate), when Final Fantasy 7 Remake launches on April 10, and in the lead-up to that, we (and millions of others) have been looking back on the highs and lows of the series over the years. In this feature, we’ll be taking a look at all the mainline numbered Final Fantasy games, and ranking them from worst to best.

So without further ado, let’s get started.

#16. FINAL FANTASY 14 (ORIGINAL RELEASE)

Final Fantasy 14 came at a time when the series as a whole was perhaps in the worst shape of its life. Final Fantasy 13 had been come across as something of a disappointment in 2009, and the fact that FF14 was an MMORPG meant that quite a few automatically lost interest as well. It didn’t help that when the game launched, it was utter crap (to put it mildly). Thanks to being terribly unpolished, being ridden with performance issues, featuring an interface that was a nightmare to navigate, and core interaction, exploration, and combat mechanics that were an absolute chore, the original Final Fantasy 14 was perhaps the biggest misstep this series ever made. Of course, Square Enix did manage to turn things around, to the extent that Final Fantasy 14 as we know it today is probably one of the best games in the series- but we’ll get to that soon enough.

These 15 characters are exactly why we have trust issues.

Can you ever really know another person? What drives you to get out of bed every morning might not mean anything to another, and the ideals of yourself don’t translate over to the truths of another quite so flawlessly. Such is what happened with the characters we’re going to explore in this list. Some of these characters transcend being characters and become people because their values cause them to turn away from the path of the player, and sometimes they never really lined up to begin with. What’s a good story without a twist or two after all? Really goes without saying, but watch out for some serious spoilers ahead.

Master Miller – Metal Gear Solid

Infiltrating deep into Shadow Moses Island was never a one man operation, since Solid Snake had help from a whole team of support. Though not all of them were what they seemed either, the point of focus here is the memorable moment in the middle of the classic tactical espionage action game where Master Miller, the one you call for gameplay tips suddenly disappears. The trick is that the antagonist of the game, Liquid Snake, had killed Master Miller before the events of the game had even began, and had infiltrated your mission from the start to see every move you made.
