Looks of creatures for this Halloween season on Now.

October is finally here and, as always, the focus is on that holiday that closes the month: Halloween. It’s generally the time to cart out all of your ghosts and ghouls and other assorted creatures associated with scary times. Seems PS Now will be no different in that regard as six new titles are available for the month with some that harken well to that time of the year.

As you can see below, it’s time for the monthly additions to Sony’s streaming service, PS Now. Probably the most notable one is last year’s Days Gone, an open world action game known for its literal hordes of zombies you have to contend with it. It will be available on Now for a limited time until January 4th 2021. There’s also Friday the 13th, the 4v1 multiplayer title that sees someone playing as the iconic killer Jason as four other players must try to escape or kill him. For something a little lighter, there’s the MediEvil remake, which sees undead knight Sir Daniel taking on all sorts of evil beasts. On top of that, we also have a few Halloween-esque indie titles, Trine 4: The Nightmare Prince, Steel Rats and Battle Princess Madeline.

All of these titles are available now via PS Now, which can be accessed on the PS4 and PC.

Games like Resident Evil 2, The Evil Within 2 and more are heavily discounted until November 1st.

In keeping with the Halloween season, many storefronts like Steam are having special sales. The Steam Halloween Sale 2019 doesn’t have any gimmicks – aside from a strange twisting widget of sorts – but it does have deals. Do you like scary video games though?

Because many of the discounts apply to horror titles like Little Nightmares (75 percent off), Friday the 13th: The Game (50 percent off), Resident Evil 2 (50 percent off) and Dying Light (66 percent off). One of the best discounts has to be Tango Gameworks’ The Evil Within 2 which is 67 percent off, the lowest it’s ever been. If you haven’t experience the terror-fest yet, it might be worth looking into.

Many titles, like Dying Light and Terraria, also have Halloween events going on. Even if you’re not looking to purchase anything from the sale, there’s plenty of reason to revisit your favourite games this season. The Steam Halloween Sale 2019 will be available until November 1st so grab what you can until then.

This month's offerings from Microsoft are underwhelming, to say the least

The latest slate of free games coming with Xbox Live Gold in October 2019 has been revealed. To say that it’s not as impressive as Sony’s PlayStation Plus offerings would be an understatement. Xbox One players are getting Tembo the Badass Elephant and Friday the 13th: The Game. Check out the trailer below.

The former is available for the whole month while the latter must be claimed between October 16th and November 15th. Offerings for Xbox 360 aren’t much better – Disney’s Bolt is available from October 1st to 15th. Meanwhile, Team Ninja’s Ninja Gaiden 3: Razor’s Edge is available from October 16th to 31st.

Both games are playable on the Xbox One though they’re hardly the creme of the crop in terms of quality. At least the Xbox Game Pass offerings for the coming months are looking good. Titles like Cities: Skylines and Saints Row IV: Re-Elected are on the way along with Yooka-Laylee, The Escapists 2 and Dead by Daylight.

It doesn't release on a Friday, but you can take the game on the go soon.

We reported earlier that the slasher inspired Dead by Daylight is coming to the Switch in September, but it seems like it’s going to get beat to the punch as the first serial killer/survivor simulator to hit the system. One of the (very few, at this point) killers not guest starring in Dead by Daylight is coming just a month beforehand with Friday the 13th.

Due to some rights issues that are unresolved, publisher Gun Media and developer IllFonic unfortunately can’t produce new content for the game, but it already got quite a lot of Friday inspired DLC before those issues arose, like costumes and emotes, all of which will be included in the Switch version of the game, which they are calling the Ultimate Slasher Edition. Those who buy the game on Switch will also get an exclusive limited edition poster. You can check it out below.

Friday the 13th: Ultimate Slasher Edition will launch on August 13th (unfortunately, not an actual Friday) and will retail for $39.99 USD.

New games for those on a budget.

We’re talking a lot about the next generation of consoles right now, since they’re getting close (almost certainly, the PS5 and next Xbox will both release next year). While it’s exciting, those on a budget have another reason to be excited, as that means a lot of the big games from this great generation are going on a permanent discount. Today, Sony announced five new games that are coming to their PlayStation Hits line.

The line already has quite a line up, from the likes of Persona 5 and Bloodborne to Uncharted 4, The Last of Us, and many more. Sony have now announced that they are adding Horizon: Zero Dawn Complete Edition, Resident Evil 7, Nioh, Friday the 13th, and God of War 3 Remastered as well. Resident Evil and Nioh also have complete editions with DLC content, but it seems as if only the base editions are part of the Hits line.

You can check out an entire chart of the line up of games you can pick up below. If you’re on a budget, or you just happened to miss out on some of these, it’s a fantastic time, and price, to jump in. The five games announced today will go on the Hits list starting June 28th.

Even though legal troubles prevent the developers from making any more content for the surprisingly fun and successful co-op title Friday the 13th The Game, it doesn’t stop them from bringing what they have made to other platforms. And that’s exactly what they will be doing this Spring. Friday the 13th: The Game- Ultimate Slasher Edition brings the popular co-op shooter game based on the slasher horror movie to Nintendo Switch, a press release from Gun Media announced today.

Presumably, this launch refers the base game plus all the DLC that has been released for it so far (though Hellfire Jason may not be included due to the aforementioned legal issues). That said, the game’s co-op nature lends itself incredibly well to the Nintendo Switch, with its support for spontaneous local co-op, so I have to imagine that one missing bit of content won’t matter much, given how well a fit the game is for the platform to begin with.

Friday The 13th: The Game is available currently on PS4, Xbox One, and PC.

This is significantly less interesting than what was rumoured, that’s for sure.

On the heels of Mafia 3 being the prime attraction for the batch of games that Sony offered to PS Plus subscribers in August, we are getting another game that I am sure most of us would like to play, but few of us would actually want to spend money on with PS Plus this month. Sony has announced that the lineup for PS Plus in October will include Friday the 13th, the belated, but surprisingly fun, multiplayer game based on the classic pulp horror movie that launched two decades too late.

Apart from Friday the 13th, Sony has announced the other games that comprise the lineup too— Laser League, 2064: Read Only Memories, The Bridge, Rocketbirds 2: The Evolution, and Master Reboot. We also get the PlayLink game Knowledge is Power as a bonus PS Plus title for this month.

It’s not a particularly great month, especially compared to what was rumoured, but eh, I’ll take it. I’ve been wanting to play 2064 and Friday the 13th, so I’ll be sure to check them out.

IllFonic's contracted work on the horror title is officially finished.

After announcing that IllFonic’s “contracted work” has been completed, Gun Media is now working with Black Tower Games to continue supporting Friday the 13th: The Game. This comes off of an announcement earlier this year about future content being cancelled due to a lawsuit surrounding the rights of the IP. IllFonic has moved on to new projects in the meantime.

Black Tower Games is known for titles like Archangel (iOS) besides assisting IllFonic in developing the Jarvis House and Pinehurst maps in Friday the 13th: The Game. It should be interesting to see what the studio does going forward. Honestly, at this point, only bug fixes and improvements to the core experience will be possible.

Friday the 13th: The Game launched in May 2017 and was beset with bugs, server issues, and a litany of other problems. It slowly improved and IllFonic put out regular content updates to cater to loyal players. What are your thoughts on Black Tower Games taking over in their stead? Let us know in the comments.

We know what you delayed last summer, Friday the 13th...

When Friday the 13th first launched last year, one of the most ghastly things about the horror multiplayer title was the bugs, and dearth of content. Fast forward to May 2018, and developer IIIFonic is finally almost ready to introduce the much anticipated single player component to the game.

Originally announced for last summer, the mode was delayed in August 2017, citing that they just weren’t happy with it yet. Now, having launched the offline bots and Virtual Cabin already, we’re about to see the challenge mode. In the update set to launch this Thursday, 10 solo challenge stages will allow players to unlock 30 new emotes, a new counsellor with Victoria Sterling, and several improvements.

The challenges themselves range quite a bit, and can be somewhat reminiscent of Hitman series, asking players to do anything from eliminate everything from the stage to using a specific weapon in their butchering. We’ve included the trailer below.

Dedicated servers will be further out and regular game update will halt in the meantime.

Illfonic’s asymmetrical multiplayer title Friday the 13th: The Game is still in business despite the relative instabilities it had at launch. Taking player feedback into account, the developer noted in October that it would upgrade to the latest Unreal Engine version.

Community lead Daniel Nixon has outlined some of the improvements that can be expected, including improved performance, better physics and fixes to “long-standing issues that will be automatically resolved by moving to the new engine version.” We’ll still have to wait a few more months with the development team targeting April for the same.

Another advantage of the engine upgrade is support for dedicated servers for those on consoles. We still have no information on when they’ll arrive though. As Nixon notes, “Our focus has to be on the [engine] update first. So we’ll need to wait until that’s wrapping up to start estimating the work remaining to get to dedicated servers, and provide you with that information.”

To prepare for the impending engine upgrade, the studio’s team has been fully transitioned to the same. Game updates will be stopped in the meantime but it’s all for the sake of hitting that April release window. Hopefully, once the engine upgrade hits, we’ll see Friday the 13th: The Game achieve its full potential. What are your thoughts on these changes? Let us know below.
