The showcase could offer some long-awaited updates for Supermassive's Little Nightmares 3 and perhaps contain a few surprises.

With so many great horror games announced and upcoming, one has to wonder: What happened to Little Nightmares 3? Bandai Namco will seemingly reveal the answer on June 24th at the first-ever Little Nightmares Showcase, airing at noon PDT.

While the exact announcements are unknown, Supermassive Games’ Little Nightmares 3 is pretty much guaranteed to appear. The side-scrolling co-op sequel was delayed to this year, but a release window has yet to be announced. It’s in development for Xbox Series X/S, PS5, PC, Nintendo Switch, PS4, and Xbox One.

Then there’s Little Nightmares Enhanced Edition, rated by the Entertainment Software Ratings Board for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. It will probably introduce ray tracing, 4K resolution support and more to the original game, which is stuck on previous-gen consoles. Stay tuned for more details in the meantime.

As for the original developers, Tarsier Studios, they’re working on a brand new survival horror game called Renaimal. It’s also available this year for Xbox Series X/S, PS5, PC, and Nintendo Switch 2.

You'll never feel fully comfortable playing these single player games.

Whether it’s through their writing and storytelling, through overbearing atmosphere, through grueling difficulty, through unforgiving systems and mechanics, or a combination of some or all, games can make players feel entirely helpless in more than a few ways. Here, that’s exactly what we’re going to talk about, as we shine a spotlight on fifteen games that are great at making players feel totally and utterly powerless.

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: HEART OF CHORNOBYL

Here’s a recent and obvious one to kick things off. Every step of the way, it feels like S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 is trying to kill you. The game takes a lot of pride in how brutally demanding it is, to the point where it can feel actively hostile to the player. Terrifying mutant monstrosities, a constant dearth of weapons and ammo, radiation and extreme weather, or the plain and simple fact that you’re incredibly easy to kill- plenty of factors come together to ensure that you never feel at ease in the Exclusion Zone.

Stealth games are a rare occurrence these days, so finding really good ones is a tough ask. In this feature, we list 15 most recommend stealth games you need to experience.

It’s fair to say most stealth games nowadays aren’t built precisely around the act of infiltrating, killing, and evading undetected but instead include stealth as a viable option to navigate. For this reason, there’s a broader spectrum of game genres on this rundown than we’ve featured on previous stealth lists. There is a common thread though: each game on this rundown, when played stealthily, requires incisive, careful, considered approaches. A demand to utilise tools and techniques to complete objectives undetected. For stealth fans, there’s no bigger reward than that.

Assassin’s Creed Unity

Most games these days includes mechanics to facilitate stealth, but oftentimes enemy AI is poorly implemented that you risk being detected no matter how hidden you are. Assassin’s Creed Unity isn’t perfect, but it’s arguably last gen’s best stealth experience due to thoughtful level design and enemy placement. There’re the token tools to distract guards, of course, but Unity has a surprising depth to character move sets. Understanding distinct animation length and noise emitted in low or high-profile moves is key, as is – perhaps counterintuitively – mastering non-lethal takedowns.

Initially leaked last year, the Enhanced Edition could arrive on current-gen consoles and PC before the launch of Little Nightmares 3.

Bandai Namco is gearing up for Little Nightmares 3, but it could launch a remaster of the first game before that. Initially leaked by South Africa’s Film and Publication Board last year, Little Nightmares: Enhanced Edition was recently rated by the Entertainment Software Rating Board (ESRB) for PS5, PC and Xbox Series X/S.

The listing notes some of the more graphic content players can expect. Though the publisher has never announced plans for a remaster, it did release a free Enhanced Edition upgrade for owners of Little Nightmares 2. It added ray-traced reflections, 3D audio support, and interactive particles for current-gen platforms with 4K/30 FPS and dynamic 4K/60 FPS modes for Xbox Series X/S and PS5.

If Little Nightmares: Enhanced Edition does launch in the coming months, it could also be a free update for PC and previous-gen console owners. Stay tuned in the meantime for updates. As for Little Nightmares 3, it’s being developed by Supermassive Games and is out later this year for Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, PS4, PS5, PC, and Nintendo Switch.

From sequels seeking redemption to new concepts for established franchises, these games were way better than they had any right to be.

If it wasn’t obvious, making a video game isn’t easy. Along with creating a strong concept and design, you need to hire artists and programmers, budget everything accordingly, manage production cycles, squash bugs, coordinate teams and much more over years. Whether an indie or big-budget game, it’s hard to predict how some games will turn out.

However, there are games which turn out even better than expected. Even if they looked good, the final result is something truly special. Here are 15 games that are way better than they initially had any right to be.

Inside

Coming off the success of Limbo, Playdead Games began work on Inside, a spiritual successor of sorts. Many praised the former for its presentation and gameplay in 2010. However, despite starting development on Inside two months later, it was a long journey for the studio. Revealed in 2014, it faced some delays, which wasn’t enough to create overwhelming concern. At the time, many expected Inside to be good, but not that good.

And it was more than good on release in 2016. Earning near-universal praise from critics, its dark mood and storytelling were arguably superior to Limbo. The short length also exemplified how a video game could deliver pitch-perfect pacing with compelling puzzles and mechanics, on top of an incredible plot that didn’t hold the player’s hand.

Several years later, Inside is remembered even more fondly than Limbo, transcending its indie identity to become one of the best games ever made.

Bandai Namco has published a job ad that seems to suggest that work is underway on the next instalment in the horror series.

The Little Nightmares franchise has delivered to excellent games back-to-back and has enjoyed plenty of critical and commercial success as a result, with Bandai Namco recently having confirmed that the series has collectively sold over 12 million units to date. With that sort of success, one would assume that the company has more planned for the series’ future, and sure enough, work on whatever comes next seems to be underway.

That’s as per a job listing posted by Bandai Namco recently on LinkedIn (spotted by The Game Spoof). The listing is for an internship position as a producer assistant on the Little Nightmares IP at Bandai Namco Europe, and says the applicant will join the team responsible for the franchise within the company.

Little Nightmares 1 and 2 were, of course, developed by Swedish team Tarsier Studios, but the developer was acquired by Embracer Group in 2019. Shortly afterward, it was confirmed that the Little Nightmares IP would remain under Bandai Namco’s ownership, and that future instalments would not be developed by Tarsier. Tarsier, meanwhile, is currently at work on its own new IP under the ownership of Embracer Group.

Bandai Namco is celebrating 12 million copies sold for the Little Nightmares franchise.

Bandai Namco have revealed that the Little Nightmares franchise has sold more than 12 million units across platforms. The franchise includes two games, aptly titled Little Nightmares and Little Nightmares 2, along with mobile spin-off title Very Little Nightmares.

Little Nightmares was originally released in 2017, putting players into the shoes of Six as they try to escape the Maw, which is an underwater vessel filled with monsters. The sequel, which released in 2021, revolved around Mono, who gets swept up in adventure after meeting the girl in the yellow raincoat.

Despite the success of the Little Nightmares franchise, Bandai Namco hasn’t made any announcements for potential sequels or further spin-offs.

Little Nightmares developer Tarsier Studios seems to be working on a new game, as evidenced by teases by the studio on Twitter. The studio was acquired by the Embracer Group back in 2019, and Bandai Namco was confirmed to be holding on to ownership of the Little Nightmares IP.

Games in the Little Nightmares franchise are available on a variety of different platforms. The original Little Nightmares is available on PC, PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, Android and iOS, while its sequel—Little Nightmares 2—is also available on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S. Very Little Nightmares is available on iOS and Android.

All three titles will be available for PS Plus Essential, Extra and Premium subscribers from August 2nd to September 6th.

As rumored earlier today, Sony’s free monthly titles for PlayStation Plus Essential in August include Yakuza: Like a Dragon, Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1+2 and Little Nightmares. These will be available for Essential, Extra and Premium subscribers from August 2nd till September 6th.

Yakuza: Like a Dragon is playable on PS4 and PS5, telling the story of Ichiban Kasuga. After taking the fall for a crime and being released after 18 years, he finds himself betrayed and seeking revenge. Unlike previous Yakuza titles, Like a Dragon is more of a turn-based role-playing game with abilities, classes, dungeons, and much more.

Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1+2 Cross-Gen Deluxe Bundle is being offered in August, which means it’s playable on PS4 and PS5. It’s a ground-up remake of the first two Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater titles but includes moves from later games, new music, and new skaters. Finally, Tarsier Studios’ Little Nightmares on PS4 is a 2.5D horror platformer where a young girl named Six must escape from a terrifying place called The Maw.

Those who haven’t claimed last month’s offerings, namely Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time, Man of Medan and Arcadegeddon, should do so by August 1st.

As is customary, the upcoming monthly lineup for PlayStation Plus Essential's free games has leaked, revealing some heavy hitters.

It’s become almost traditional for the new monthly lineups for PlayStation Plus Essential’s free games to leak ahead of their official announcement, so it’s not surprising in the slightest that the lineup for August has leaked as well- and it’s looking like an impressive one.

Dealabs use billbil-kun has accurately leaked PlayStation Plus’ monthly fee offerings for subscribers consistently for several months. Now, the user claims that PS Plus essential – the lowest tier of the service – is going to have a strong August, offering Yakuza: Like a Dragon, Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1+2, and the original Little Nightmares. Those are three great and very different games, so subscribers who haven’t played them yet might want to keep an eye out.

Sony hasn’t made an official announcement yet regarding the August lineup, but it shouldn’t be long before that happens. Stay tuned, and we’ll keep you updated on any new details coming our way.
