Check out how the original Monster Hunter looked back in the PlayStation 2 era.

To celebrate the 15th anniversary of the Monster Hunter franchise, Capcom has released a special video highlighting all of the series’ titles over the years. It starts from Monster Hunter, which hit the PS2 in 2004, all the way up to Monster Hunter XX in 2017 and Monster Hunter World in 2018 (with the Iceborne expansion coming this year). Check it out below.

It’s interesting to see the franchise’s evolution. New iconic monsters have been introduced over the years, the graphics are massively improved, and several new gameplay mechanics (like Monster Hunter Tri’s underwater combat) have also joined the fray. However, the core gameplay of hunting monsters and mastering different weapon types as you scrounge up materials and resources for better gear remains the same.

Monster Hunter World has at least one major free update coming with Arch-Tempered Nergigante this Spring. Iceborne will be releasing in Fall 2019 and includes new gear, new moves, a new region with several locales to explore, and of course, new monsters. It’s coming to Xbox One and PS4 first, with a PC release happening later.

Hunt the largest selection of monsters ever with new Hunting Styles and Arts.

Capcom’s Monster Hunter World has ushered in a whole generation of new hunters. However, for those who want some old-school new action, Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate is finally available for the Nintendo Switch. Check out the launch trailer below.

Featuring the largest collection of monsters ever, Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate is the Western port of Monster Hunter XX. Along with the traditional 14 weapon types, it includes six Hunting Styles and different Hunter Arts for varied play-styles. It’s even possible to control a Felyne in Prowler mode and do battle this way. Those who played Monster Hunter Generations on the 3DS can also transfer their data over to Generations Ultimate on the Switch.

It’s also worth noting that the event quests for the game are all available from launch itself. If you run out of content, simply head to the “Download DLC” page and bask in all the additional content. Check out GamingBolt’s official review of Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate here.

Nintendo Switch users get to try out all six Hunting Styles and Prowler abilities before launch.

Monster Hunter World may finally be out on PC, but for many who play primarily on the Switch and are looking for their own Monster Hunter fix, Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate is almost here. Even better, Capcom has announced a demo for the Nintendo Switch port coming on August 16th, complete with all six Hunter Styles and Prowler abilities.

More information was provided courtesy of ResetEra user Simsamdeo, who said, “There are three hunts available for you to choose from and each represents a different difficulty level (from beginner to veteran). Each hunt is 25 minutes by the way.” That assumption was based on the content that was on offer in the Monster Hunter XX Switch demo that Japan received last year, and sure enough, Capcom confirmed in another tweet that local and online co-op is included in the demo, as the ResetEra user had pointed out in their own response as well.

If that does indeed seem to be the trend, and the upcoming demo is in line with the Japanese demo from last year, then that might clue us into other details about it as well. For instance, another ResetEra user Ridley327 (with input from user Lelouch0612) offered more details on the exact monsters that players might end up hunting. “Preset characters to fight against a neat little twist on the alpha raptor archetype (Great Maccao), one of the big fan favourite monsters that is appearing for the first time in the West in five years (Barioth), and a deeply humbling encounter with a dragon crossed with an F15 (Valstrax).”

Finally, Monster Hunter afficianado Gaijinhunter took to Twitter with a disclaimer of sorts about what the demo doesn’t offer. Basically, if you’re walking into the demo and expecting it to hold your hand even just a little bit, don’t. “Monster Hunter demos are floor demo builds. Don’t expect the game to tell you anything about itself, any tutorial, any hint at what the full game offers. This is a stand-alone build that lets you play and get some hands on with the system and some monsters, like MHW Beta did.”

While it sounds like a pretty high barrier to entry, Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate does offer heaps of content, plenty of variety and the same weapon types that we know and love. It’s out on August 28th for the Switch.

Monster Hunter XX finally makes its way to Western Switch players.

Capcom’s highly successful Monster Hunter XX, an expansion of Monster Hunter Generations, will be heading to the Nintendo Switch in North America and Europe. Titled Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate, it will release on August 28th physically and digitally.

Though Monster Hunter XX came to Switch in Japan last year, Capcom denied ever bringing the game to the West. Clearly localisation work has been going on though. Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate offers the highest number of monsters in the series along with the usual assortment of weapons and gear to craft. In this iteration, players will contend with the Fated Four along with a new Elder Dragon.

That’s not all though. G-Rank, a higher tier of hunting quests, will also be available for more challenging encounters. Furthermore, players can utilize Hunter Arts in combat for unique moves and Hunter Styles for with two new Styles – Brave and Alchemy – for even more diversity.

Of course for Monster Hunter World fans, there will likely be even more news at E3 2018. What are your thoughts on Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate coming to Switch in the West? Let us know below.

The blockbuster console title brings Capcom to its "highest level of profitability".

Monster Hunter World’s momentum is seemingly unstoppable – the console title shipped 7.9 million units worldwide according to Capcom’s financial results for the 2017 fiscal year ending March 31st 2018. The company revealed that this was its “highest level of profitability” in history thanks to Monster Hunter World.

The publisher also noted that the game “significantly contributed” to its financial performance along with bringing international recognition. Though actual sales for the game have yet to be confirmed, the large shipment numbers indicate a strong demand for the franchise overall.

In other financial news, Resident Evil 7: Biohazard has sold 5.1 million units since launch. Monster Hunter XX shipped 1.8 million units on the 3DS while Ultra Street Fighter 2: The Final Challengers was deemed to have had strong performance. Sales for Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite are still “soft” though it managed to ship 1 million units.

With numerous updates, event quests and the upcoming PC version, one has to wonder what Capcom’s next step will be for Monster Hunter World. E3 2018 could provide some answers so stay tuned in the meantime.

Today,Capcom revealed their financial performance for the nine months that ended on December 31, 2017. While sales have decreased a bit as compared to the previous year, both ordinary income and operating income have increased. The increased income has been attributed to the growth of digital content business. In their press release, Capcom discussed that there has been a “major growth” of home consoles such as PS4 and Nintendo Switch and thanks to this, they have been able to ship more game home video games. Additionally, Capcom is also looking for market growth in the eSports area due to the rising popularity of eSports.

In the past year, a number of games have performed significantly well for the company. They have reported strong sales for titles including Resident Evil 7 biohazard, Monster Hunter XX, and Ultra Street Fighter II. On the other hand, the performance of Marvel vs Capcom: Infinite was described to be “soft”. While Resident Evil 7 biohazard shipped 4.8 million units during the nine month period, Marvel vs Capcom: Infinite shipped only 1 million units since its release in September, 2017.

Overall it had been quite a good year for Capcom. For this year, Monster Hunter: World has performed well and we’ll have to wait and see just how much more successful it ends up being.

I guess that's what having an actual good screen and resolution will do for you.

While the future of the mainline Monster Hunter franchise rests on Monster Hunter World, which is hitting the Xbox One, PS4, and PC early next year, the Switch is still getting Monster Hunter XX, an upgraded version of the (presumably) last Monster Hunter title to hit the Nintendo 3DS.

Monster Hunter XX is a 3DS game at its core, and nothing can change that. So while it is coming to the Switch, its roots very much lie on Nintendo’s last gen handheld. That said, it is a bit surprising how much better the visual quality of the Switch game appears to be when compared with the 3DS version, as demonstrated in these new videos that you can see for yourself below.

I suppose that’s what having a decent screen and resolution – the Switch screen is 6.2 inches and 720p, versus the 3DS’s 240p screen – will do for visual quality. Monster Hunter XX will launch on the Nintendo Switch in Japan. A western release for the game has been ruled out for now.

However, if you have a Japanese account you can still check it out.

With Capcom’s Monster Hunter XX heading to the Nintendo Switch by August end, a new demo is now available on the Japanese Eshop to offer a taste of the gameplay. Though it’s in Japanese, the region-free nature of the Switch allows players from outside Japan to download it as well.

Monster Hunter XX expands on Monster Hunter X aka Monster Hunter Generations on the Nintendo 3DS with new quests, weapons, monsters and much more. The Nintendo Switch version offers high resolution graphics and cross-platform play online with 3DS players. Unfortunately, Capcom currently doesn’t have any plans to release Monster Hunter XX for the Switch or 3DS outside of Japan.

However, Xbox One, PS4 and PC players will be able to check out Monster Hunter World in 2018 which features a larger world and more streamlined mechanics. It will come to PS4 and Xbox One first and PC later.

There's plenty of distinguishing features from the 3DS version.

Capcom’s Monster Hunter XX is out for the Nintendo Switch later this month in Japan and the company is prepping a demo for the Eshop on August 10th. In the meantime, you can check out how the visuals have improved from the 3DS version in a new trailer.

The trailer also highlights some of the new features including support for vibration. Monsters roaring, techniques landing and so on can lead to vibrations though this can be toggled off if you so desire. Being able to zoom in and out of the map with a single button press is also neat.

Other interesting additions include the R button being used to bring up the hunting whistle’s menu and full screen keyboards. If you play in portable or tabletop mode with the Switch, it’s possible to use the touch-screen for typing messages.

Monster Hunter XX Nintendo Switch Ver. is out for the console on August 25th. To find out how to play the Eshop demo, head here.

Thanks to Switch's region-free nature, everyone can play it.

Capcom’s Monster Hunter XX will be making its way to the Nintendo Switch in Japan this month. And while a Western release isn’t currently planned, a demo will be making its way to the Nintendo Eshop on August 10th. Thanks to the Switch’s region-free nature, Switch players around the world can try it out.

However, you’ll need to make a new account, choose the correct region and link it to your Switch before accessing the Eshop. It’s also worth noting that the demo will be in Japanese so unless you speak the language, don’t count on understanding everything. Still, as far as trying the gameplay out, it’s not the worst option.

Monster Hunter XX actually released for the Nintendo 3DS in Japan earlier this year. As a meatier version of Monster Hunter Generations (or Monster Hunter X in Japan), players could hunt down new monsters, take on additional quests and much more.

Currently, there are no plans for either version to be localized in the West but that could change. Case in point, Resident Evil Revelations 1 and 2 coming to the Switch in late 2017 despite Capcom stating there were no plans for the franchise on Nintendo’s console.
