Even though it released on January 26th for Xbox One and PS4, Capcom’s Monster Hunter World has already shipped 5 million units worldwide (including digital downloads) in three days. The critically acclaimed title has thus set a new record for the series in the process.

Capcom has noted that it “remains firmly committed to satisfying the expectations of all users by leveraging its industry-leading game development capabilities in order to create highly entertaining gameplay experiences.” Along with free DLC, including a new monster to hunt in the Spring, there will be a Hollywood film adaptation in the future. That doesn’t include events hyping the Monster Hunter World Kariou Playoffs and the current Monster Hunter: The Real attraction in Universal Studios Japan.

Though this figure doesn’t measure the precise number of units sold-in, we do know that it’s the top selling game in the UK for the past week as per Chart-Track. First week sales are higher than any Monster Hunter release till date and that’s only counting physical retail copies. With such success, it will be interesting to see how this grows with the PC version, which is planned to launch in Fall 2018.
