Microsoft also confirms that the sequel to Level-5's beloved RPG, Ni no Kuni 2: Revenant Kingdom, will launch for Xbox next year.

One of the best JRPGs of the last couple of decades is headed to the Xbox family of consoles. At its recent TGS stream, Microsoft confirmed that Level-5 and Studio Ghibli’s beloved RPG Ni no Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch, is available now on Xbox Series X/S and Xbox One. The game has also joined the ever-impressive Xbox Game Pass catalogue.

A remastered version of the game launched for PS4 and PC in 2019, which is the version that’s been made available on Xbox platforms as well. Meanwhile, it’s also been confirmed that its sequel, No no Kuni 2: Revenant Kingdom, will also launch for Xbox consoles and Xbox Game Pass sometime in 2023.

The Ni no Kuni franchise has been dormant (at least in the West) for a few years at this point, with Level-5 having been focused on a mobile release and an animated movie in recent years. Even so, going back to these games – especially the original – is very much recommended.

You can check out Ni no Kuni’s Xbox launch trailer below to get a glimpse at what the RPG looks like. Spoilers: it still looks great.

Level-5’s classic role-playing title Ni no Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch is out this week. It’s releasing for the Nintendo Switch in its classic form while the Remastered version is coming to PS4 and PC. Check out the launch trailer below to check out how the visuals have improved.

Ni no Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch tells the story of Oliver, who gets into an accident but is saved by his mother’s sacrifice. When grieving, he’s contacted by Drippy, who tells him of another world where the mage Shadar imposes his rule. Wanting to meet his mother’s soulmate, Oliver sets out to the other world, meeting companions along the way.

Acclaimed for its animation, which was done by Studio Ghibli, and music by Joe Hisaishi, Ni no Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch Remastered runs at 1080p resolution and 60 fps on the PS4 and PC. The Switch version runs at 720p resolution and 30 fps. The gameplay seems to be relatively unchanged so we’ll see how it holds up when both versions are out on September 20th.

Nintendo have confirmed a bunch of new third party releases for their platform.

Third party support for the Nintendo Switch continues to impress (by Nintendo standards, at the very least). Their most impressive third party announcement was, of course, The Witcher 3: Complete Edition coming to the Switch later this year, but there was plenty of other stuff that got announced as well.

For starters, Resident Evil’s lineup on the Switch continues to go. Joining the various older mainline and spinoff titles for the series on the platform are Resident Evil 5 and Resident Evil 6, both of which are coming in Fall of this year. Then there’s Spyro Reignited Trilogy (true to the leaks), launching September 3.

The lovable PS3 RPG, Ni no Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch is also coming to the Switch on September 20. The upcoming The Sinking City got announced as well, due out in Fall. Sega and Creative Assembly’s stellar horror title, Alien Isolation, launches some time this year as well.

Take a look at a montage video of all the announcements made during Nintendo’s E3 2019 Direct presentation below.

The base game is also apparently coming to the Nintendo Switch in Fall.

Bandai Namco Entertainment’s string of leaks continues. After FromSoftware’s Elden Ring and Tales of Arise leaking, it’s Ni no Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch Remastered. The remaster is coming to PS4 and PC this Fall with a resolution upscale and improved performance, but will also released on the Nintendo Switch without these enhancements.

Leaked courtesy of Direct-Feed Games on Twitter, it seems that the remaster of the PS3 classic will not be coming to Xbox One. The PS4 and PC versions could potentially support 4K resolution. Since Ni no Kuni 2: Revenant Kingdom was a success for Level-5, it makes sense to remaster the original for a new generation.

Ni no Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch first released in Japan in 2011 and saw players controlling a boy named Oliver. Embarking on a journey to save his mother, Oliver travels through a fantastical land and meets various intriguing characters while partaking in battles and using Familiars. Containing animation sequences by Studio Ghibli and a soundtrack co-composed by Joe Hisaishi (Spirited Away, Howl’s Moving Castle), the first game was critically acclaimed. Check out GamingBolt’s review here.

A complete video walkthrough for Ni No Kuni 2: Revenant Kingdom.

Ni No Kuni II: Revenant Kingdom is the sequel to the acclaimed original game Ni No Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch. In many ways, this sequel builds upon the foundation laid by its predecessor including the visuals, combat style, and more. In this game, the central character is a prince called Evan whose kingdom has been usurped. Evan is then helped by two companions called Roland and Tani to try and regain his lost kingdom.

The game features an open world which players can travel through in search of different adventures. During these journeys, the trio of characters are sure to be faced with some challenging situations. In times of battle, players can control any of the three characters manually. There is definitely going to be a lot to do for players in the game’s world. If you’re ever feeling stuck at any point, then the following walkthrough should be of use to you.

Next January will see the release of the long awaited Ni no Kuni 2: Revenant Kingdom, the sequel to the cult hit PS3 and Nintendo DS JRPG from the previous generation, on the PS4 and PC. And while PC players will finally get the chance to enjoy some good Level-5 JRPG questing, there will probably be some who will want the original game to complete the set.

That would, of course, necessitate a PC port of the PS3 game- something that Level-5 seems to be interested in making happen, but will obviously not commit to for the time being. Speaking with PCGamesN, Ni No Kuni series’ director Akihiro Hino confirmed his interest in seeing something like that happen.

“No comment for a PC port of Ni no Kuni at the moment. I would love to see it happen, since we hear a lot of requests from all Ni no Kuni fans around the world,” he said.

The original Ni no Kuni was a bit flawed, but JRPG fans still did appreciate it for what it was, especially in an era where high budget console JRPGs appeared to be declining. While it is unclear if the game would actually hold up today, when so many better alternatives are available, including on PC, I still think having the option available for PC players won’t hurt anyone. Here’s hoping.

Level 5’s Ni no Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch, an HD port of the original for the PS3 and which many gamers considered to be one of the best JRPGs of last year, has managed to ship 1.1 million copies worldwide.

Together with the original DS version, Ni no Kuni managed to ship 1.7 million units worldwide. To celebrate the fact, a new All in One Edition for the PS3 game will be releasing on the Japanese PlayStation Store. It will feature the original game, all the DLC, Familiars from the DS version and an easy mode, all for ¥1,000. This will become available on March 13th.

Considering that both games together were announced to have sold 1.4 million units by September 2013, we’re fairly sure the amount of shipped units is close to units sold. You can check out our review of Ni no Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch here to learn more about the game.

Sales include Japan only sales of 3DS game and worldwide sales of PS3 edition.

Though it was revealed during the recent Level-5 conference in Japan, Namco Bandai has officially announced that the franchise Ni no Kuni has sold 1.4 million units since releasing worldwide. This includes the worldwide sales of Ni no Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch for PS3 and Japan-only sales of the original DS game. The former was critically acclaimed when it arrived in the West.

Senior Vice-President at Namco Bandai Games Europe Olivier Comte stated that, “We are very proud to join our partner, LEVEL-5, to announce that the critically acclaimed role-playing game series, Ni no Kuni, has approximately reached the 1.4 million units sold worldwide. The franchise has been very well received in EMEA and as a result of its quality, has reached an amazing number of sales for a JRPG.”

Ni no Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch tells the story of a boy who travels between two different worlds on a quest to rescue his mother. The game not only features cut-scenes animated by Studio Ghibli (of Spirited Away fame), but a soundtrack from Joe Hisaishi.
Inazuma Eleven manages 6.5 million copies worldwide.

Along with revealing an upcoming mobile and console touch-centered RPG in the form of Wonder Flick, Level-5 also announced sales figures for several of its key franchise at its annual Vision conference. CEO Akihiro Hino revealed that thus far, the most successful series for the developer has been Professor Layton, which has sold 15 million copies worldwide.

Inazuma Eleven wasn’t too far behind, selling 6.5 million games in total worldwide for all of its games. Meanwhile, Ni no Kuni for the 3DS (available only in Japan) and Wrath of the White Witch, the PS3 adaptation of the game, managed to sell 1.4 million copies worldwide.

So far so good, though the sales for Ni no Kuni are somewhat sobering, especially considering the hype and positive critical reception the game received when it released in the West. At least Layton still manages to make it rain for Level-5. We’ll see how Wonder Trick fares when it releases in November.

The JRPG has beaten out both FIFA 13 and Black Ops 2 for the number 1 position.

Is it snowing in Hell? Either way, Namco Bandai must be extremely proud as their latest JRPG Ni No Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch, developed by Level 5 and Studio Ghibli, has debuted at number one spot on UK retail charts according to UKIE and GfK Chart-Track.

Despite being exclusive to Playstation 3 and suffering several supply shortages, it was able to beat previous number 1 holder Treyarch’s Call of Duty: Black Ops 2, which is now in third place, and EA’s FIFA 13, currently in second place.

Namco UK’s Lee Kirton stated that, “We expected good sales as the pre-orders were close to shipment. In the end we have created a demand for this amazing game and have stock going out to channels this week.

“We have focused PR, marketing and the community has been brilliant. We have been solid with communication and reviews in the UK have been astonishing. We are very pleased, but ultimately it’s down to an incredible game from Level 5 and some strong communication from me and my team.”
