Along with a reduced PSO cache size to lessen "Out of Memory" crashes, the hotfix also increases animation streaming memory.

The Last of Us Part 1 had a very controversial start on PC, with many users reporting the port broken in several ways. Naughty Dog acknowledged the complaints and already issued a hotfix for some of them. It’s now released another hotfix to improve memory and performance.

For instance, the PSO cache size has decreased, which reduces memory requirements and should reduce crashes caused by “Out of Memory.” The animation streaming memory is increased for better performance during gameplay and cinematics. Finally, there’s a fix for crashing on the first boot.

The hotfix also added more diagnostics for the developer’s tracking purposes, but Naughty Dog is also “closely watching” player reports. Expect even more patches and fixes in the coming days.

The Last of Us Part 1 is also available on PS5 and received strong acclaim upon its release on the console. Check out our official review here. Naughty Dog has committed to developing games for PC and PS5, so hopefully, future ports will have fewer problems.

The Last of Us Part I v1.0.1.6 Patch Notes

Decreased PSO cache size to reduce memory requirements and minimize Out of Memory crashes

Added additional diagnostics for developer tracking purposes

Increased animation streaming memory to improve performance during gameplay and cinematics

Fix for crash on first boot

The long-awaited PC port of the remake is riddled with issues at launch, earning a "Mostly Negative" user review score on Steam.

After a long wait, The Last of Us Part 1 is now available on PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store. Unfortunately, players have reported issues like crashing, long loading times and more. These have caused the Steam user review score to plummet to a “Mostly Negative” rating.

Naughty Dog is aware of the same and published a list of known issues, including shaders taking longer to load than expected, performance and stability degrading while shaders load in the background, a potential memory leak and more. There are also issues with older graphics drivers leading to instability or the game failing to load even if you meet the minimum requirements.

The developer is working on patches and will provide updates “as they become available.” Players are encouraged to submit tickets for any other issues encountered.

The Last of Us Part 1 isn’t the first PlayStation exclusive ported to PC to face issues. Horizon Zero Dawn Complete Edition required months of support to fix, and Returnal recently launched with its share of problems. Stay tuned for more details on Naughty Dog’s title in the meantime.

Naughty Dog's acclaimed survival adventure finally comes to PC with new features and improved visuals. Here's what you should know.

The Last of Us is one of the many hallowed PlayStation exclusives that PC players couldn’t experience since it first debuted in 2013. However, on March 28th, they’ll finally get the opportunity when The Last of Us Part 1 launches for PC.

Currently available for PlayStation 5, this is a remake with improved visuals and several new features while retaining the core gameplay and story of the original. Let’s take a spoiler-free look at 15 things you should know before buying.

Story

The Last of Us takes place in a post-apocalyptic future, where an outbreak of the Cordyceps fungus has turned people into mindless monsters. Joel Miller is the protagonist, serving as a smuggler with Tess in Boston. After making a deal with the Fireflies militia, the duo take on the task of smuggling a young girl named Ellie. Where their journey leads them and the challenges encountered along the way make up the bulk of this tale, but The Last of Us Part 1 also includes Left Behind, a prequel DLC which gives more insight into Ellie’s circumstances.

Gameplay

Set in the third-person perspective, The Last of Us is more of a survival action-adventure game than a run-and-gun shooter. You have different firearms, but crafting melee weapons and items like Molotov Cocktails is encouraged due to limited ammunition. Stealth is also paramount when dealing with bandits and the infected, especially the Clickers, who possess brute strength but rely on sound to get around. There’s also plenty of exploration and puzzle-solving to be had, with players learning more about the world and how humanity is coping with its collapse.

Graphical Improvements

The most noteworthy feature of The Last of Us Part 1 is its visuals. They’re a considerable step up over the PS3 original (and its PS4 remaster) with more detail, revamped character models and animations, improved lighting and shadows, and 4K support. For a PC player who’s never experienced the initial release, this is the best way to play the classic, barring any potential performance issues.

New HUD and Workbench

The Last of Us Part 1 does have its share of changes and new gameplay features that distinguish it from the original. The HUD and workbench now see Joel working on weapons as he modifies them. The AI has also been improved, resulting in multiple ways that encounters could play out.

Gameplay Modifiers

The remake has a lot to unlock, including new gameplay modifiers. While you can horizontally flip the world on death or permanently to traverse an intriguing mirror dimension, many modifiers are essentially cheats like unlimited ammo, infinite crafting materials, slow motion, infinite melee weapon durability, one-shot kills with guns, and Explosive Arrows, which cause an explosion on impact with regular arrows. You can even alter the audio, changing it to 8-bit retro style or Helium, which increases the pitch.

Skins and Filters

Other unlockables include different outfits for Joel and Ellie, weapon skins, and filters. Filters change the game’s appearance, from basic color changes with Cool, Warm and Vibrant to 8-bit for a retro appearance, Dungeon for an almost cel-shaded look, and Void for changing the background to a Matrix-like amalgamation of letters and numbers. If that weren’t enough, there’s also a Model Viewer for admiring many character models up close. Want to take in every grotesque detail of a Bloater? Now’s your chance.

Speedrun and Permadeath

Those who finish The Last of Us Part 1 and want to play it again but faster, can enable Speedrun Mode. Exclusive to the remake, it keeps track of your playtime per chapter and in a complete playthrough. These times are categorized based on the difficulty, New Game Plus and more. In addition to six difficulty options, including the punishing Grounded difficulty, Permadeath is also available in the remake. It limits the player’s save options, so you can respawn at the beginning of an act or chapter on death or start the whole game over.

Accessibility Features

There are over 60 accessibility features in the remake, with three presets to choose from. Players can enable Enhanced Listen Mode, skip puzzles, enable invisibility, adjust the HUD scale, enable subtitle names and directions, and receive navigation assistance. There are also lock-on aim and auto-target options, auto pick-up, holding buttons for melee combos and repeated presses, removing weapon sway and much more.

True 4K and Ultrawide Support

Speaking of the PC-exclusive features, The Last of Us Part 1 supports native 4K and Ultrawide monitors. In addition to 21:9 Ultrawide displays, 32:9 Super Ultrawide monitors also work, giving you the widest possible viewing area to appreciate the ruined world.

Graphics Settings

The PC port also supports Nvidia DLSS Super Resolution and AMD FSR 2.2. There are also graphics options, like Texture Quality, Shadows, Reflections, Ambient Occlusion, Vsync and frame rate cap etc. Though 120 FPS support hasn’t been confirmed, its inclusion in the PS5 version makes it a given for the PC version.

Minimum and Recommended Requirements

Now for the big question – can your PC run it? You’ll need 100 GB of installation space on an SSD and Windows 10 64-bit (Version 1909 or newer), regardless of other hardware. Minimum requirements include an AMD Ryzen 5 1500X or Intel Core i7-4770K and 16 GB of RAM. GPU-wise, a Radeon RX 470 or RX 6500 XT (4 GB) or GeForce GTX 970 or 1050 Ti (4 GB) is necessary. This nets 720p/30 FPS at Low settings.

Recommended requirements include a Ryzen 5 3600X or Core i7-8700, 16 GB of RAM and a Radeon RX 5700 XT or RX 6600 with 8 GB of VRAM. Nvidia users need an RTX 2060 Super or RTX 3060 with 8 GB VRAM for 60 FPS/1080p gameplay at High settings.

1440p and 4K Requirements

For running the game in 1440p/60 FPS at High settings, an AMD Ryzen 5 5600X or Intel Core i7-9700K is required, with either a Radeon RX 6750 XT or GeForce RTX 2080 Ti and 32 GB of RAM. Finally, for 4K/60 FPS at Ultra settings, a Ryzen 9 5900X or Core i5-12600K, Radeon RX 7900 XTX or GeForce RTX 4080, and 32 GB of RAM are needed.

DualSense and Gamepad Support

PS5 players, take note – the DualSense is supported on the PC version, complete with haptic feedback and adaptive triggers. A wired connection is necessary, though. Other gamepads, including the DualShock 4, are also supported, but you can stick to the keyboard and mouse if needed.

Keyboard and Mouse Controls

Those playing on keyboard and mouse will find plenty of options to customize. In addition to full control remapping, you can set primary and secondary bindings. There are also other options, like an adaptive mode for combining inputs from the keyboard and controller.

Bug Fixes and Improvements

Interestingly, The Last of Us Part 1 on PC doesn’t exist in perpetuity. Naughty Dog has been listening to feedback since the console version was released, and implemented various improvements and bug fixes. We’ll only know the full extent when the PC version launches, but expect a more polished experience.

Insomniac's follow-up to Marvel's Spider-Man finally comes to PC on November 18th. Here's everything you need to know about it.

Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered took the PC platform by storm in August, becoming PlayStation Studios’ second biggest Steam launch. It’s not surprising, given the base game’s immense success on PS4. But the stage is now set for Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, its follow-up, to capitalize on that success. Here are 13 things you need to know about the PC version, which launches on November 18th.

Story

Taking place after the events of Marvel’s Spider-Man, Miles Morales had donned the moniker of the hero after a year of training with Peter Parker. When Parker leaves Manhattan to assist Mary Jane on an assignment in Symkaria, Miles is its protector. With Roxxon Energy Corporation moving into Harlem to push its new energy source, the Underground and its leader, The Tinkerer, emerging to oppose it, and new enemies like the Prowler to deal with, there are more than enough challenges to face. Unlike the previous game, the story is about Miles growing into his role as Spider-Man and proving himself.

Cast

Aside from Peter Parker and Mary Jane Watson, Miles is supported by his mother, Rio Morales, who is campaigning for City Council. Other new characters include Ganke Lee, Miles’ best friend and classmate, his uncle Aaron Davis, podcaster Danika Hart, and his childhood friend Phin Mason. Other noteworthy characters like J. Jonah Jameson, hilariously horrified at the presence of two Spider-Men, Kingpin, and Rhino also appear.

Gameplay

If you’ve played Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered on PC, then Miles Morales is pretty much the same gameplay loop. It’s set in the same open world of Manhattan but with new story and side missions (now accessible via the Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man app). For those who haven’t, well, you’re essentially Spider-Man. You swing through the city, chaining together wall runs and dives, stop random crimes, and battle crooks in fast-paced combat. There are different activities to complete for Activity Tokens and Tech Parts used to craft new mods and Suits while upgrading his Gadgets.

New Abilities and Gadgets

Like Peter, Miles also possesses super-strength, Spider-Sense for detecting incoming danger, and incredible agility for web-swinging and dodging attacks. However, he also brings his own tools to the table with Venom Blast, which can create bursts of bio-electricity to stun foes or deal big damage, and Camouflage for briefly turning invisible. There are also new gadgets like the Gravity Well to group several enemies, Remote Mines that can be attached to surfaces and remotely triggered, and the Holo-Drone for generating hard light clones to fight by your side.

Graphics Options

As with many PlayStation exclusives that have come to PC, Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales provides unlocked frame rates and a wide range of graphical options and presets. You can adjust crowd and traffic density, level of detail, texture quality and filtering, field of view, and resolution up to 4K.

Nvidia DLSS 2/3, AMD FSR, and Intel XeSS Support

Nvidia DLSS 2, which boosts performance, and Nvidia DLAA for enhanced image quality on supported cards are included, along with Nvidia Reflex for reduced latency. However, those who own the new GeForce RTX 40 Series can also take advantage of Nvidia DLSS 3. This improves performance further by generating more frames with AI and provides a pretty hefty boost over non-DLSS gameplay. Of course, one can take advantage of AMD Fidelity FX Super Resolution 2.1, Intel XeSS, and IGTI on PC as well.

Ultra-Wide Monitor Support

By now, seeing Ultra-wide monitor support for a PS4/PS5 title on PC is normal. Miles Morales supports 16:9, 16:10, 21:9, 32:9, and 48:9 resolutions, but one nice touch is that triple monitor setups are also supported when playing at 48:9. It’s also compatible with Nvidia Surround or AMD Eyefinity.

Ray-Traced Reflections and Shadows

When Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered was released, it was only available with the Ultimate Edition of Miles Morales. So those who didn’t want to drop $70 at launch (the good old days) had to be content with Miles Morales’ implementation of ray tracing. It’s pretty good, with both ray-traced reflections and ray-traced shadows supported and various quality options to choose from, depending on your hardware.

DualSense and Mouse and Keyboard Support

The PS5’s DualSense controller is supported, albeit via wired USB, and provides haptic feedback along with the adaptive triggers. Various other controllers are supported through Steam Input with options for remapping, but you can also stick with a mouse and keyboard. This again provides numerous customizable options.

PC Requirements

If you’re looking to run Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales at 720p/30 FPS and Very Low settings, then you need an Intel Core i3-4160 or AMD equivalent CPU, an Nvidia GeForce GTX 950 or AMD equivalent GPU, and 8 GB of RAM. This is the bare minimum required to run the game. Recommended settings include a Core i5-4670 or AMD Ryzen 5 1600, GeForce GTX 1060 6GB or AMD Radeon RX 580, and 16 GB RAM for playing at 1080p/60 FPS and Medium settings.

But for 4K/60 FPS at Very High settings, you’ll need a Core i5-11400 or Ryzen 5 3600, a GeForce RTX 3070 or Radeon RX 6800 XT, and 16 GB RAM. The game needs 75 GB of installation space with a solid-state drive required at Recommended settings and above.

Ray Tracing Requirements

Ray tracing has its own set of demanding requirements, starting at 1440p/60 FPS or 4K/30 FPS at High settings (which is dubbed “Amazing” Ray Tracing). You’ll need a Core i5-11600K or Ryzen 7 3700X, a GeForce RTX 3070 or Radeon RX 6900 XT, and 16 GB of RAM.

However, for the Ultimate Ray Tracing setting, which provides 4K/60 FPS and High Ray Tracing at Very High settings, you’ll need a Core i7-12700Kor Ryzen 9 5900X, a GeForce RTX 3080 or Radeon RX 6950 XT, and 32 GB RAM. Once again, an SSD with 75 GB of installation space is required.

Playtime

It’s been mentioned a lot, but Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales isn’t a full-sized game. It’s not an expansion or DLC either – you can easily spend 15 to 18 hours completing its story and side content while collecting everything. Long story short, don’t expect a massive new world to explore, but there’s enough story and action to make it worth jumping in.

Pre-Purchase Bonuses

We won’t spoil all of the different suits that Miles can unlock and craft. However, pre-purchasing does provide immediate access to two of them – the T.R.A.C.K. Suit, which decreased ranged attack damage by 25 percent, and the Into the Spider-Verse Suit, which mimics the animation style of the animated film. You also get three Skill Points for unlocking more abilities earlier and the Gravity Well gadget from the outset. All of these are available to unlock in-game.

Available on Steam and the Epic Games Store, the collection features remasters of Uncharted 4: A Thief's End and Uncharted: The Lost Legacy.

Nearly nine months after its launch on PS5, Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection is now available for PC via the Epic Games Store and Steam. Developed by Naughty Dog and Iron Galaxy Studios, it includes remastered versions of Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End and Uncharted: The Lost Legacy. Check out the trailer below to see them in action.

Along with improved visuals, the PC version supports 4K resolution, AMD Fidelity FX Super Resolution 2, and Ultra-wide Monitors. Players can also adjust the quality of shadows, reflections, ambient occlusion, and more, along with using the DualSense (though it functions like a DualShock 4). Mouse and keyboard support, Auto Pause, Variable Load Speed, and more are also available.

For more details, check out our review of the PC version here. You can also look up the system requirements here. They’re fairly modest when playing at 1080p resolution and 30 FPS but get pretty hefty at 1440p/60 FPS and 4K/60 FPS.

Requirements for ray tracing have yet to be confirmed, but those looking to play at 1080p/60 FPS should have little difficulty.

Following its release date announcement, the PC requirements for Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales have been revealed. According to Steam, the minimum requirements include an Intel Core i3-4160 3.6 GHz or equivalent AMD CPU, 8 GB of RAM, and an Nvidia GeForce GTX 950 or AMD Radeon RX 470.

The recommended requirements include an Intel Core i5-4670 3.4 GHz or AMD Ryzen 5 1600 3.2 GHz with 16 GB RAM and a GTX 1060 6 GB or AMD Radeon RX 580 8 GB. In both cases, you’ll need 75 GB of installation space, though the latter demands a solid-state drive.

Long story short, if your system can comfortably run Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered, it shouldn’t have any problem with Miles Morales. The requirements are the same, so the latter should run in 720p/30 FPS (Very Low settings) on minimum hardware and 1080p/60 FPS (Medium settings) on recommended hardware.

Insomniac and Nixxes Software haven’t confirmed the hardware needed for ray-tracing. Stay tuned for further details in the coming weeks.

Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales is out on November 18th for PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store. Pre-purchases will receive three Skill Points and early unlocks for the T.R.A.C.K. Suit, Into the Spider-Verse Suit, and Gravity Well gadget.

Opening week sales in the region were 26 percent higher than God of War's release on Steam. It's currently the 4th biggest PC release of 2022 in the UK.

Though it had the second biggest Steam launch for a PlayStation Studios release, Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered on PC scored big with its UK release. According to GSD (via GamesIndustry), the port is the fastest-selling PC launch in the region yet. Opening week sales are 26 percent higher than that of God of War.

On top of that, Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered is the fourth biggest PC release of 2022 in the UK. Elden Ring, Total War: Warhammer 3 and LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga are the top three. Overall, this is good news for Sony, which has steadily ramped up its PC releases of first-party titles.

In May, it revealed that Horizon Zero Dawn sold nearly 2.4 million units on Steam while God of War sold 971,000 units. It’s projecting $300 million in revenue from its PC releases in this fiscal year, ending on March 31st, 2023. With The Last of Us Part 1 and Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection still to come for PC, it may end up hitting that target. Stay tuned for more details in the meantime.
