Each module focuses on a different threat, the first introducing the Beastmen for players to deal with as they defend the realm and upgrade Inns. However, launching alongside this is a new paid DLC, Inhuman Bondage. It brings a new bonus region comparable in size to The Sluice – the Catacombs – with new enemies (described as “corrosive” and “oozing”) and items.

Available for use in Kingdoms and the base game, this region promises “high risk and high reward”, but also delivers a brand-new hero. Their identity is unknown, but they sport “unique” mechanics alongside Trinkets, palettes, weapon kits, and an origin story. Stay tuned for more details in the coming months.

After entering early access in 2021, Darkest Dungeon 2 fully released for PC last year, selling over half a million copies in the first week. Unlike its predecessor, players select from four heroes at the outset and explore multiple doomed regions via stagecoach en route to The Mountain. Branching paths provide an insight into each party member’s past on top of featuring encounters, random events and boss fights.

Combat is still turn-based but overhauled, featuring tokens for status effects. Check out our review of the PC version here. The developer has made several improvements and new additions since launch, but its biggest update yet, Kingdoms, is out later this year. Now, the developer has completed the set with the announcement that the game is coming to Xbox as well. A couple of weeks from now, when it launches for PlayStation consoles and Switch, Darkest Dungeon 2 will also be available for Xbox Series X/S and Xbox One, with pre-orders now being live for Microsoft’s consoles as well. Its expansion, The Binding Blade, will also be available.

Darkest Dungeon 2 is currently available for PC. It launches on July 15 for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch. It’s getting a new standalone campaign later this year, dubbed Kingdoms.

At the recent Nintendo Direct presentation, it was announced that Darkest Dungeon 2 will also be releasing for the Nintendo Switch on July 15 alongside its PS5 and PS4 versions. Pre-orders are available now, with a 15 percent discount currently being offered. Those who purchase the game’s Oblivion Edition will also get the game’s DLC, The Binding Blade, in addition to the base experience.

Darkest Dungeon 2 is currently available on PC. Alongside PlayStation and Switch, the game was also rated for Xbox consoles in Brazil earlier this year, though it has yet to be officially announced for Microsoft’s consoles. Later this year, Red Hook Studios will also be releasing a new campaign for the game dubbed Kingdoms. Read more on that through here.

Darkest Dungeon 2 will be available on PlayStation consoles for the same price as its PC version, which is $39.99, with pre-orders live now. Players can also purchase the Oblivion Bundle, which, on top of the base game, also includes Darkest Dungeon 2’s expansion, The Binding Blade. The bundle costs $44.99.

Darkest Dungeon 2 was rated for PlayStation, Xbox, and Nintendo Switch in Brazil in March, indicating imminent announcements. Thus far, however, Red Hook Studios hasn’t given any word on when the game will be releasing for Xbox and Switch players.

Recently, Red Hook Studios also announced Kingdoms, a new standalone campaign that will be added to Darkest Dungeon 2 as a free update sometime later this year.

The two new heroes, The Duelist and the Crusader, each come with their own unique abilities and specialties. While the Duelist focuses on their disciplined combat styles and switches between aggressive and defensive stances, the Crusader focuses on healing and stress recovery along with its front-line combat abilities.

The new mini-boss, the Warlord, can be found wandering around as players try to make their way to the Mountain. While the studio hasn’t revealed too many details about the Warlord, the encounter has been described as dangerous, requiring a new layer of strategy.

Darkest Dungeon 2: The Binding Blade was first announced back in November. Celebrating the DLC’s release, the base game is currently available at a 25 percent discount. For more details, check out our review of Darkest Dungeon 2.

Big changes are afoot in Red Hook Games’ Darkest Dungeon 2. Early access starts in Q3 2021 as revealed in PC Gamer UK’s July issue with the game’s story shifting more towards a road trip to a mountain. Thanks to scans on Reddit, several details have been gleaned about the mechanics. Long story short, stats like Accuracy are out and Tokens are in. Tokens will now determine if a character is blocking (which reduces 50 percent damage from the next hit), afflicted with status effects like Bleed and Stun, and so on.

Since you’ll have four characters with you on a run (no duplicate heroes either), the interactions between them have grown. Afflictions have been removed and depending on your actions, it’s possible to gain or lose favor with party members. Depending on the amount of favor amassed, you can have a positive or negative relationship with a character. The Quirks from the first game will also play into this, influencing the entire party.

If a character takes on too much stress, they won’t have a heart attack. Instead, they’ll suffer a meltdown where health drops to Death’s Door numbers. But all relationships are now reset, providing a clean slate of sorts.

As noted already, weapon and armor upgrades are out while Trinkets are now more build-defining. Trinkets are divided into Common, Rare and Epic tiers and some can only be obtained from certain factions or bosses. Some Skills include the Grave Robber’s “Glint in the Dark” for ignoring enemy stealth and 20 percent of Deathblow resistance or the Highwayman’s “Highway Robbery” which will destroy any positive Tokens that an enemy has. The objective is to provide more diversity and allow each character to be “super unique and vital.”

Darkest Dungeon 2 will be coming to early access on PC via the Epic Games Store. Stay tuned for more details later this year.

PC Gamer UK’s July issue has a story on Red Hook Games’ Darkest Dungeon 2, of which scans are available on Reddit. Along with several new details, it confirms that early access on PC will begin in Q3 2021. The rogue-like will launch with nine classes including the Grave Robber, Jester, Leper, Highwayman, Man at Arms and more along with the first of five acts in its story. However, quite a lot is changing this time around.

Following the revelation at the end of the first game, the world is pretty much in ruins. You now have a caravan of four heroes that travels through different regions a la Oregon Trail to reach a mountain. What awaits players is unknown but this time, there’s a map of different encounters to choose from, whether it’s helping survivors in need or taking down vicious foes.

A run should take about five hours but your heroes can – and most likely will – die, prompting you to start again with a new selection. Progress carries over between each run, allowing you to unlock 11 different skills for each class and use five at a time. Weapons and armor no longer need to be upgraded – instead, it’s all about the Trinkets, which provide unique effects (with the trade-off that they’re gone after the run ends). There’s even more to glean from the story so stay tuned for more details.

Darkest Dungeon 2 will be available for PC first with early access starting on the Epic Games Store.

Red Hook Studios has released a new teaser trailer for Darkest Dungeon 2, the highly anticipated follow-up to its insane dungeon crawler. It will enter early access for PC on the Epic Games Store in 2021, during which it will be exclusive to the storefront. Check out the teaser below.

Don’t worry though – it will be available on other storefronts at launch. Over on Steam, producer John Lindvay has answered several questions about the duration of early access, noting that the yearlong period is a “good goal which allows for lots of additions and refinements but also doesn’t become a perpetual Early Access product.” However, he also noted that this duration isn’t set in stone since the team wants to be able to respond to feedback.

The overall content coming to early access is also unknown (though the developer is aiming for 60 percent of total content) but there will be a narrator with Wayne June making a return. Furthermore, the visuals will be in 3D with hand-drawn textures with some models shown in the teaser. “Thanks to this change, we’re able to bring more life to the characters and amp up the FX, while preserving the classic DD combat presentation. The teaser uses in-game character models and is rendered right out of Unity!”

Overall, Darkest Dungeon 2 is looking to be even bigger and more terrifying in scope than the first. Stay tuned for more details on its launch date, along with overall content, in the coming months.
