“Today, we have some very difficult news to share. The decision has been made to end development of Transformers: Reactivate,” said the studio in its announcement.

Splash Damage seeks to scale down its operations and focus on other projects. While details on these projects have not been given, the studio has also mentioned that this cancellation may lead to some layoffs.

“This means we will be scaling down to refocus our efforts on other projects,” it continued. “Unfortunately, despite every effort, several roles across the studio are now potentially at risk of redundancy.”

“Hasbro was an incredible and supportive partner throughout, and we hope to work with them again. To the many fans, your excitement and support helped keep us going.”

Development on Transformers: Reactivate had been going on for quite some time since the game was originally announced back in 2022. Since then, the studio has been quiet about it, with no new trailers released. Transformers: Reactivate was going to be an action game featuring co-op multiplayer for up to four players. Unfortunately, no other details about the game had been revealed, aside from its announcement trailer.

Splash Damage is a storied studio, having worked on various titles across various genres. The developer originally got started with shooters, with titles like Return to Castle Wolfenstein, Brink, and Dirty Bomb. The studio would then go on to team up with Microsoft to work on Gears of War Ultimate Edition in collaboration with The Coalition, as well as turn-based tactics game Gears Tactics.

Splash Damage’s next game is Transformers: Reactivate, which will see players “fighting back against the legion” in a 1-4 player online action title. Details on the game, its story, or what it will play like are scant beyond that, while the announcement trailer doesn’t show any gameplay either, instead offering a cinematic look at the title. Transformers: Reactivate is in development for PC and consoles, though specific platformers haven’t been confirmed. A release date for the title also hasn’t yet been revealed.

Gears Tactics launched earlier this year on PC, and in less than a month, it will become available on consoles as well. On its console release, it will be available across several devices, and now, The Coalition have revealed details on what frame rates and resolutions the tactics game will tackle on each of them.

The developer has confirmed to The Verge that on the Xbox Series X, Gears Tactics will run at 4K and 60 FPS. For cinematics, players will have a choice between 30 FPS and 60 FPS. “Not for any performance reason but more for just personal taste,” explains Cam McRae, technical director at The Coalition.

Meanwhile, on the Xbox Series S, the game will run at 1440p and 60 FPS. On the Xbox One X, players will have the option for either 4K / 30 FPS or 1440p / 60 FPS. Finally, on a base Xbox One, the game will run at 1080p at 30 FPS>

Though the frame rate and performance figures for the game on the Xbox Series S and the Xbox One X, McRae says that for several reasons, Gears Tactics still looks better on the former. “It is better on the Series S,” says McRae. “It’s visually better — same resolution, same frame rate, but the CPU is so much better in the Series S and the Series X that we have a lot more ability to just draw more stuff. Even though the GPU is responsible for drawing, we still have to get it there off the CPU, and on the Xbox One X you’ll see that the visual quality is not quite as high as it is on the Series S in the performance mode.”

Gears Tactics will release for consoles on November 10, and will also bring plenty of new content to the game.

Gears 5 will also be optimized for the Xbox Series X / S on the same day, and will boast higher frame rates, reduced latency, shorter load times, and more.

When Microsoft launches their new generation consoles next month, there’s going to be a variety of titles to choose from, as you’d expect. Some of those will include some Gears, a lot of Gears actually. Not only will we get the console debut of Gears Tactics, the tactical-based spinoff of the franchise, we’ll also get an updated version of Gears 5. And it seems as if Microsoft is keen to combine the two.

As announced at RazorCon, the main protagonist of Gears Tactics, Gabe Diaz (the father of the main protagonist of Gears 5, Kait Diaz) will come to Gears 5 multiplayer, which is seeing quite the boost on the Xbox Series systems. You will have to play through the tutorial of Tactics on any platform first, but once you do, he’s yours to keep. The announcement trailer also briefly goes over the new features for Tactics, such as the new weapons and playable Jack, which you can see more of through here.

Gears Tactics will launch on consoles for the first time on November 10th for Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S and Xbox One, and it’s available now on PC. Gears 5 is available on Xbox One and PC and will also be available on Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S via Smart Delivery and Xbox Game Pass, and the Gabe skin will come November 17th.

Thanks to the strong reception its enjoyed for its PC release earlier this year, many players have been looking forward to Gears Tactics’ console launch. That will be coming this November, when the turn-based tactics game launches as a launch title for the upcoming next-gen Xbox consoles (but also for Xbox One). And that occasion will also go hand-in-hand with a major new update for the game.

In an update officially announcing Gears Tactics’ console release date, The Coalition confirmed that on that day, a major new update will also be going live for the game across all platforms, including PC, bringing some significant new content with it. The most significant is Jack the bot, who will be added in as a playable character, and will have over 20 new skills, “ranging from empowering auras to hijacking and controlling enemy units.”

The new update will also introduce Deviant enemies, a new type of powerful enemies who will have special abilities “that will defy the players’ strategies.” New Supreme equipment will also be added in, and will “reward players with powerful gear to play through the campaign, defying massive bosses and facing the new Deviant enemies.” Finally, there will also be enhanced support for Xbox controllers in the PC version.

Gears Tactics is currently available on PC, and will launch for Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and Xbox Series S on November 10. You can read our review of the game through here.

It was earlier this year when the Gears of War franchise (or I guess it’s just Gears now) entered into a new genre with Gears Tactics. The game was a tactical strategy game in the vein of XCOM with its own twists worthy of the series. It was originally a PC-only title, but it was recently revealed the game would be making its console debut alongside the launch of Microsoft’s latest consoles, and today we got a trailer to celebrate.

The trailer in question is just called the “Announce” trailer and hypes up the upcoming console versions. You’ll see flashes of gameplay here as well as mentions of the new optimizations for the Xbox Series X and improved controller options for consoles. Those who preorder or preload via Game Pass will also get a bonus character Cole with a Thrash Ball theme.

Microsoft recently confirmed that both the Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S will be launching worldwide on November 10. This was followed by several launch titles being confirmed for the next-gen duo, including the likes of Watch Dogs: Legion, Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, DiRT 5, and Tetris Effect Connected. Now, we have another name to add to that list.

Taking to Twitter via the official Gears of War page, The Coalition recently confirmed that Gears Tactics, the turn-based strategy title that launched for PC earlier this year, will also be a next-gen Xbox launch game. It will release on November 10 for Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, and Xbox One.

Gears Tactics launched for PC in April merging the world of Gears of War with the turn-based strategy of XCOM, and was met with solid critical reception from critics and audiences alike. Gears Tactics came out on PC earlier this year, enjoying quite a bit of success, but the turn-based strategy game still has important milestones to hit. Microsoft had always intended to bring the game to Xbox following its PC release, and earlier this month, said that it would be coming to “consoles” this Fall, suggesting – perhaps unsurprisingly – that it would also be releasing for Xbox Series X alongside the Xbox One.

Now, Gears Tactics has received an age rating for its upcoming console launch, giving a much clearer indication that it will indeed be coming to both Xbox consoles. The game’s ESRB rating – which is generally identical to the one it received for its PC release – mentions both the Xbox One and the upcoming Xbox Series X as the consoles it’s coming to. Given the game’s targeted Fall launch date for console, it’s not surprising that Microsoft will be bringing it to their next-gen system as well.

Earlier this year, we got a whole new spin on the Gears of War franchise with Gears Tactics. The game was well-received (you can read our take on it through here) and seemed to have strong sales. At one point the game was only announced for PC, but now it seems that console users will be able to get their Gears on later this year.

Former head of The Coalition Rod Fergusson mentioned earlier in the year that the game would be eventually making it’s way to Xbox One, but we hadn’t heard anything about it until now. In an Inside Unreal stream with developers from The Coalition, they officially confirmed that the game would be coming to consoles this Fall.

They did not specify this, but their wording plus the timing makes it seem as if it’s also Xbox Series X bound- but again, but no platforms were explicitly mentioned.

Google put plenty of emphasis on upcoming exclusive games for Stadia, and though some of these are games that we probably won’t hear anything about for some time to come, there were some concrete announcements as well. Gears Tactics developers Splash Damage, who we know have been working on a Stadia exclusive, announced that game at the recent Stadia Connect.

That game is Outcasters, and it’s not what you’d expect. It’s colourful competitive shooter. Played from a top-down perspective, the game’s hook is that any and all bullets or projectiles you fire never go to their targets in straight shots, and instead always take curved paths. So you can hit enemies behind cover (or vice versa), just as an example. Check out its reveal trailer to get a better idea of how it works below.

Speaking to GamesBeat, lead designer Lilly Zhu said that the game is “easy to pick up, tough to master, extremely watchable, and remains challenging over a long period of time.”

Outcasters will be coming to Stadia this Fall, though a more specific release date hasn’t yet been announced. Google also announced at the Stadia Connect that FromSoftware’s Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice is also coming to Stadia this Fall.
