EA Motive might be gearing up to reveal their "unique" Star Wars title soon.

That EA Motive – the developers of the Star Wars Battlefront 2 campaign – are working on what they’re calling on a “very unique” new Star Wars project has been known for a while, and in recent months, more info on that project – reportedly codenamed Project Maverick – has been emerging through leaks.

And it seems the studio is getting ready to reveal that game in full very soon. They recent made their official Twitter account, and the responses to their first tweet by certain people hint at an upcoming reveal. GamesBeat’s Jeff Grubb responded to it with a gif from the film, Top Gun: Maverick (emphasis on the subtitle, of course). Meanwhile, responses by Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier were much more direct, with Schreier remarking in one tweet that EA Motive are preparing to announce their new game, and clarifying in another tweet afterward that that new game is the Star Wars project they’ve been working on.

So what’s the date we can expect the game to be revealed? Well, connecting some dots will lead you to June 2 as the likeliest date. Grubb has been teasing and leaking upcoming announcements for a while, and of late, he’s been mentioning a June 2 announcement with nothing but “Mel Gibson picture”- and most likely, the picture he’s referring to is the 1994 film called – you guessed it – Maverick.

It’s all a bunch of conjecture and unconfirmed reports right now, but it does seem likely nonetheless. EA have their annual EA Play scheduled for June 11, where they’ll likely be sharing new info on their upcoming games, and a teaser trailer reveal for Project Maverick on June 2 followed by a full reveal a week afterward doesn’t seem that much of a stretch.

Either way, stay tuned, and we’ll keep you updated on any new info that comes our way.

A small spotlight on this mystery game.

Yesterday, we all got a surprise when something called Star Wars: Project Maverick was randomly added to the PlayStation Store. It was caught by a Twitter bot programmed to report on PSN releases. We know little about the game, outside that it seems to have some type of multiplayer (you can read more about that through here). While today hasn’t brought anything official, we do have a slightly better idea of what we’re looking at.

Kotaku’s Jason Schreier was asked via his Twitter if this game was the one being worked on by EA Motive. He responded with a simple “yes.” If you’re unfamiliar, or don’t remember, with what Schreier is referring to, EA Motive confirmed not too long ago that they’re working on what was being called a “very unique” Star Wars game.

That obviously doesn’t tell us all that much, since we know nothing about what they are working on, nor what will make it “very unique.” We’ll just have to wait and see for an official announcement at this point.

The title's content ID indicates a possible beta and multiplayer support.

Respawn’s Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order has been a huge success, selling over 8 million units as of January 31st 2020. However, EA’s other Star Wars ventures have been in doubt, especially following reports of another game being cancelled last year. In the midst of all this, a new title called Star Wars: Project Maverick has suddenly been added to the PlayStation Store in Europe.

This is according to Twitter robot PSN Release on Twitter but its creator has shared the official content ID for even more details. The ID is “EP0006-CUSA19053_00-MAVERICKBETA0001” which indicates a beta. On checking other features, we see that PlayStation VR support is marked as “no” while Play Together has the number “5” which means there could be multiplayer.

Thus far, there’s been no official announcement from EA (if it even is an EA game). But it wouldn’t be the first time that something official was leaked on the PlayStation Store far ahead of its intended reveal (see the Final Fantasy 7 Remake demo). Stay tuned for more details in the meantime.
