With the PS5 slated to launch this Holiday, we’re surely approaching the time when Sony will deem it appropriate to fully unveil their next-gen plans, and sure enough, rumours have been swirling over the last couple of weeks that a PS4 reveal event is scheduled to take place this June. Those rumours now seem to be solidifying.
In a tweet listing major upcoming events in the industry over the summer, GamesBeat reporter Jeff Grubb – who has previously claimed that the PS5 reveal event will happen on June 4 – mentioned the event once again, and curiously enough, also listed another State of Play broadcast for August. In a follow up tweet, he elaborated on both, saying that the June event should be a “hefty next-gen showcase,” while the State of Play in August will be similar to previous State of Play shows, but will this time be focusing on PS5 games. This follows from Grubb recently stating that Sony will show off “an entire slate” of PS5 games in June.
Of course, util Sony makes any official announcements, it’s best to take this with a grain of salt. Though Grubb has been a reliable source of information in the past, there’s a very real chance that COVID-19 could result in Sony changing their plans, so we can’t be too sure of anything just yet. Either way, we’ll keep you updated on any new developments, so stay tuned.

It's hard to nail down details because things are still in flux. But June 4 is a hefty next-gen showcase. August should be like previous States of Play (but now with PS5 games!).
I'll probably finally get this all written in a story on Monday.
