There’s been a noticeable difference in marketing between the Xbox Series X and PS5 in the past few months. Sony CFO Hiroki Totoki did recently say to “wait for PS5 sales” before allocating a pass or fail grade to the PlayStation team for its work. But it’s high time that we start hearing about the console and its games from Sony.
Apparently we won’t be waiting long. According to Venture Beat’s Jeff Grubb – who also reported that EA was working on an HD remaster of the Mass Effect Trilogy – on Twitter, there will be a “Slate of PlayStation” on June 4th. It’s a play on “State of PlayStation” but on being asked if this was just one game, Grubb responded: “Should be an entire slate of games. A lot.” And it’s highly unlikely he’s referring to the PS4 here.
How much is a “lot” is up for debate but rumors have been running rife for months now on PS5 projects. Bluepoint Games has its own remake which is its biggest project thus far. Guerrilla Games is rumored to have Horizon: Zero Dawn 2 in the works which will be “gigantic in scope” and apparently have in Sony. Then there are the rumors of Sony working on a reboot for Silent Hill with a reveal apparently coming by May end.
Sony recently assured that the PS5 is on track for release in holiday 2020 (yes, again). So regardless of whether a reveal event or State of Play is happening or not on June 4th, we should be hearing about its next-gen plans in the coming month or so. As always, stay tuned for more details.
