Thunderful already announced SteamWorld: Headhunter, a 3D co-op title set in what seems to be a Wild West setting, last year. However, it later confirmed that three more SteamWorld titles were in development, including codename “Caramel,” a turn-based tactical strategy shooter for PC, consoles and mobiles, which could be a sequel to SteamWorld Heist.

The other titles include codename “Strawberry,” a puzzle game for mobile devices, and “Coffee,” a city builder for PC and consoles. Perhaps we’ll finally learn more about each and see the first gameplay footage for SteamWorld: Headhunter.

As for what the announcement could be, there’s SteamWorld Headhunter, a 3D, third-person co-op adventure, which appears to have a Wild West motif. Publisher Thunderful Games revealed last year that four SteamWorld games, including Headhunter, were in development. A few months later, it teased “Caramel”, a turn-based strategy shooter for PC, which may be a sequel to SteamWorld Heist.

Perhaps we’ll learn more about the other titles in development. Thankfully, it won’t be a long wait, so stay tuned for more details. The last major SteamWorld title was SteamWorld Quest: Hand of Gilgamech, a turn-based RPG with deck-building mechanics for Nintendo Switch and PC.

Turn-based tactics shooter SteamWorld Heist launched originally back in 2016, and has been ported over to multiple platforms in the years since then. Now, it looks like a sequel might be in the works. When asked about a possible SteamWorld Heist 2 on Twitter, Thunderful Games responded that it “might have some stuff planned” for fans of the tactics game.

Interestingly, of the three unannounced SteamWorld games currently in development at Thunderful, one – codenamed “Caramel” – has been described as a turn-based strategy shooter in development for PC, consoles, and mobile devices, and due out by 2024. That very much sounds like a SteamWorld Heist follow-up.

Of course, until such time something gets officially announced, it’s best to keep your expectations in check. When that announcement will come remains to be seen, but we’ll be keeping an eye out for more details, so stay tuned.

Forgetting Where You Are

It’s one thing to know that you’re Kassandra, the Misthios who’s fighting for her family and to discover her true purpose. It’s quite another to load in to a map you barely remember, on the outskirts of some outpost, not sure whether you were friends with the Athenians or Spartans and who suffered from your decisions. Don’t even get us started on loading into Fallout 4 with your custom character, unsure of the mess you’ve made or which faction you aligned with.

Image & Form Games has a new SteamWorld game confirmed for this year. Dubbed “SteamWorld Project 2017″ in a recent vlog, the developer said that more information would be revealed at PAX East in March.

SteamWorld’s most recent iteration was SteamWorld Heist, a 2D side-scrolling tactical RPG with space pirate and robots. The game released on a variety of platforms like Nintendo 3DS, PC, Mac OS X, Linux, Wii U and iOS with favourable reviews from critics all around.

That being said, previous titles in the franchise employed different mechanics. SteamWorld Tower Defense in 2010 was, as the name implies, a tower defense title while SteamWorld Dig in 2014 was a 2D platformer. All games have shared the same universe thus far.

SteamWorld Dig was incredible. It was extremely cheap, and it was a hell of an indie game, presenting a unique brand of sidescrolling action. Today, the developers at Image & Form have announced the follow up to that game. It’s called SteamWorld Heist, and the developers seem to be pretty excited about it.

“It’ll be full of surprises and probably the best game ever,” says Brjann Sigurgeirsson, exhibiting an incredible amount of modesty.

“Heist isn’t a sequel to SteamWorld Dig,” says CEO Brjann Sigurgeirsson. “It’s set in the same world and the cowbots are still the heroes. But a lot has happened to SteamWorld since then, and we want to make a game that is radically different. Partly because we really wanted to make a turn-based strategy game, but also because it felt like a clever move. The obvious follow-up would’ve been Dig 2; we wanted to surprise instead.”

SteamWorld Heist is due to release in Spring 2015; no platforms or pricing details have been announced.
