As it turns out, this isn’t the first time that Project Belfry had been mentioned. Jez Corden of Windows Central spoke on the Xbox Two podcast about an Xbox title called “Belfry.” Aside from the reference to bell towers, he was unsure about the title. At the same time, Corden was aware of Stoic Studio of The Banner Saga fame making a title with Xbox Global Publishing as well. In a recent report, Corden said, “It wasn’t until Jeff Grubb put the final pieces together on his show today that everything fit into place.”

In short, it’s Stoic Studio that’s developing Project Belfry and Corden noted that it would have “similar painted art styles to that found in The Banner Saga.” Neither the developer nor Xbox Global Publishing has confirmed the project’s existence so we’ll need to wait for an official announcement. But it’s sounding all the more exciting as time goes on.

The Banner Saga is a tactical RPG series in a Norse mythology-inspired world. It’s critically acclaimed for its visuals, story-telling and meaningful decision-making. The series concluded with The Banner Saga 3 which released in 2018 for PS4, PC, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch. Check out our review for it here.

Every month, Microsoft continues to add great new titles to its already excellent Xbox Game Pass lineup, and soon, a great deal more will be joining the subscription service’s library. Taking to Twitter via the official Game Pass handle, Microsoft confirmed the looming new additions to the catalog.

We’ve already reported on two of these in recent days- Void Bastards is out on May 29, while Outer Wilds launches the day after that, and both will be joining the Game Pass catalog at launch. The incredible shooter Superhot joins the lineup on June 6, while Stoic Studio’s Banner Saga games will be doing so as well, with The Banner Saga going live tomorrow, May 23, and The Banner Saga 2 following suit on June 6.

Full Metal Furies will also be among the games coming to Game Pass on June 6, while a week before that, Dead by Daylight will be going live, on May 30. Finally there’s Metal Gear Survive, the Metal Gear game we never wanted- but hey, if it you want to give it a try for free, now’s your chance to do so. It joins Game Pass on May 23, which is tomorrow.

The Banner Saga series was announced to be coming to Nintendo Switch during the last Nindies Showcase broadcast, with The Banner Saga 3 launching simultaneously on Switch and other platforms, and the previous two games launching on Switch before it. That does’t leave a lot of time for the other games to release on Switch, which means Stoic needs to hurry on up with those ones.

Happily enough, they’ve started. The first Banner Saga game launches on Nintendo Switch next week, on May 17, with pre-purchases available for it right now. The game will cost $20, just like on other platforms. Given its blend of adventure, SRPG, and VN elements, the game promises to be an exciting and uniquely well suited fit for the Switch, too.

The Banner Saga 2 should hopefully be on the Switch by next month too, allowing Switch owners to play through both games, and carry their saves over into The Banner Saga 3 when it launches on PC, Mac, Xbox One, PS4, and Switch.

Anyone who’s been following my posts on here for the last few years knows that I absolutely love The Banner Saga; they’re arguably among my favourite indie games ever. Given that they’re really high profile indie games, and that indie titles have been doing exceptionally well on Nintendo’s Switch, it was only a matter of time before they made the jump to Nintendo’s hybrid.

That happened today- Nintendo announced ion their Spring Nindies Showcase that The Banner Saga games would be coming over to the Switch. The Banner Saga 3 is set to launch on the Switch this Summer, which actually makes the Switch the first console the game has been explicitly confirmed for. The first two games are set to come “soon” as well, though we have no release windows. Nintendo was quick to point out that your decisions will carry over across games, which seems to suggest they might be releasing before the third game is out.

The Banner Saga is an excellent blend of a strategy RPG, a visual novel, and an adventure game; they’re the kinds of games that are perfect for portability, so having the full series on the Switch is a great coup for Nintendo. Check out the announcement trailer for The Banner Saga 3 below.

The Banner Saga 3, which is set to round off the cult hit indie series which is a fusion of turn based strategy, RPG, and point and click adventure game, all wrapped up in the most gorgeous art and amazing soundtrack imaginable, is almost here.

The game is set to launch this Summer- and ahead of that release, Stoic has released a brand new trailer, highlighting the character Bolverk. You can check this trailer out for yourself below.

Players of The Banner Saga 2 probably recognize Bolverk as one of the last remaining Varl giants and mercenary leader of the Ravens- it is clear he has a major role to play in the coming events of The Banner Saga 3, but what role is that? What side will he pick as darkness threatens to overwhelm the world, and why? Clearly, that is a question we have to wait for the game to answer for us. Meanwhile, this trailer, an a whole bunch of speculation, is all we have.

Stoic’s beautiful The Banner Saga was originally announced to be coming to the PS Vita, in addition to the PS4 and Xbox One; but after almost a year of delays and radio silence, it turned out that Stoic couldn’t get it to work. They had tried to get The Banner Saga on Sony’s handheld, but it wasn’t working out, and they’d ditched plans to release it on the Vita completely, opting to just launch on PS4 and Xbox One instead.

It was a crying shame, since this is a game that would be right at home on the Vita, thanks to its unique style which would lend itself to a pick up and play style, and evidently, others felt the same way too. There was an outcry, and ultimately, the noise appears to have gotten so loud that Stoic have relented- they will be getting Sony to help them with the PS Vita port of The Banner Saga.

More news on the Vita port of the game is expected in 2016. Right now, Stoic is working on The Banner Saga 2. If you want to play Banner Saga now, and are willing to not play it on Vita, it is available on PC, Mac, iOS, and Android platforms right now, with the PS4 and Xbox One release coming next month.

Versus Evil’s The Banner Saga, the original epic role playing game that released on PC in early 2014, is finally making its way to the PS4 and Xbox One. According to community director Lance James, the game will be arriving for current gen consoles on January 12th 2016. It’s also been confirmed for localization in French, Russian, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese and more.

James also pointed out via the PlayStation Blog that, “John Watson has been working on bringing the game to consoles for quite a while. The process involved not only getting Banner Saga playable on consoles, but redesigning the user experience to better fit PS4 and DualShock 4.”

Such a process would likely help The Banner Saga 2 which is scheduled to release in Q1 2016 for the PS4, Xbox One and PC. If you’ve ever wanted to get into the epic role playing adventure, this will be the best possible way when the original releases next month. Stay tuned for more updates, especially regarding the sequel’s release date.

The Banner Saga was one of the best, under the radar games of last year, so it was great when it was announced that the adventure/SRPG game hybrid would be getting a sequel that continues its story. We haven’t seen or heard much about The Banner Saga 2 lately, but this new video, which shows a ship heading to a gigantic waterfall that seems to be at the end of the world, looks pretty damn hype.

It has that same stylistically striking look that the original Banner Saga had, when it first released last year, and its story seems to be expanding on the scope of the original game’s plot and world greatly too.

The Banner Saga launched last year on PC and Mac, and was announced to be coming to PS4 and PS Vita some time this year; we haven’t heard more about those versions since. Not much is known about the release date or platforms for the sequel, but we will keep you posted.

The Banner Saga was one excellent game when it released exclusively for PC earlier this year; recently we learned it would be getting some PlayStation love, when it will finally make its way over to the PlayStation Vita some time next year, along with its sequel, The Banner Saga 2, on PlayStation 4. Now, it seems that PlayStation won’t be the only place where the games can be enjoyed, as the developers announced that The Banner Saga 2 will indeed be coming to the Xbox One as well.

“The critical reception and widespread fan appreciation for The Banner Saga is overwhelming and humbling, and has the team at Stoic dedicated to delivering a fantastic sequel with The Banner Saga 2,” said Arnie Jorgensen, co-owner and art director, Stoic. “Here we are announcing our next game, our way, on a world-wide stage. We have surrounded our development efforts with quality people like Austin Wintory, Malukah, Taylor Davis and the Versus Evil team. We couldn’t be more excited.”

Alright, let me have it. The first game was amazing, and I really hope the next one is too.

If you’re heading out to Las Vegas this December and you happen to be  a gamer, then the chances are pretty good that you’re bound for the PlayStation Experience event being hosted by Sony. Tickets went on sale October 24th and since then the event has been hyped up considerably with all manner of show events being detailed. One of the most alluring aspects of the show is the amount of upcoming titles for PlayStation that will be playable.

To that end, Sony has revealed a number of new playable games that attendees can get their hands on. The list goes as follows, with more games possible being announced in the coming days and weeks:

• Armikrog – a point and click adventure game created by the developers of the original (and excellent) Earthworm Jim video game.
• The Banner Saga – it’s an award winning turn based strategy game.
• Kyn – a tactical role playing game developed by a Holland based duo.
• Toren – An Indie game developed by a newly formed Brazilian studio.
• Roundabout – I’m honestly not sure how to describe this one. Independent research time.
• Relatively – A game with a fun twist on the established physical laws.
• Lost Orbit – A “dodge ’em up” with a pathetic hero.
