Telltale Games shocked the industry several days ago when it announced a “majority studio closure”. Aside from 25 employees who are still working to fulfill previous obligations, everyone else has been let go. Along with future titles like Stranger Things, The Wolf Among Us: Season 2 and so on, there was doubt about whether The Walking Dead: The Final Season would be wrapped up.

As we reported earlier, US Gamer spoke to sources that stated it was cancelled and now Melissa Hutchison, the voice actor for protagonist Clementine, is also indicating as much. In a statement on Twitter, Hutchison said, “I, unfortunately, like most of you, do not have the details on how this all came to be and I also do not know the fate of the final season of TWD. To my knowledge, they will release Episode 2 and then that will be it.”

Telltale hasn’t released an official statement on whether this will be the case or not so more information is pending. For now, The Walking Dead: The Final Season’s second episode is slated to release on September 25th for Xbox One, PS4, PC and Nintendo Switch. What lies ahead for the former employees of Telltale remains to be seen.

The first episode of The Walking Dead: The Final Season had released back in August, and keeping with the monthly release schedule, the second episode will release later this month. If you’re hyped to see more of the second episode, Telltale Games has got you covered with some footage of this episode, that they revealed at PAX West 2018.

The video starts off with Clementine waking up from a nightmare and AJ sitting nearby on lookout. The two then have a conversation about their nightmares, and we also see that AJ doesn’t feel very safe where they are. Given that it’s a game in The Walking Dead series, AJ’s instincts are probably right, and some tragedy is bound to strike sooner or later (not that they’ve been perfectly tragedy-free up until now). Until then however, we can enjoy heartwarming scenes such as the one we get to see in this new footage.

The first episode of The Walking Dead: The Final Season, “Done Running“, is currently available for Xbox One, PS4, and PC, with a Nintendo Switch release due later this year. If you’ve already gotten your hands on it and can’t wait for the next big twist, then don’t worry. Telltale has announced release dates for the next three episodes, and they’re all out this year.

Following a monthly release schedule, Episode 2: Suffer the Children will be released on September 25th. Episode 3: Broken Toys arrives on November 6th, and the final episode, Episode 4: Take Us Back, is out on December 18th.

Though the developer noted that the release dates are subject to change, it’s usually been accustomed to announcing release dates for episodes out of the blue. A proper schedule is a first, but with the studio taking more time on individual game releases (and changing its engine finally), this is probably a good thing. We’ll have to play the other episodes and find out for ourselves.
