A crossover Tom Clancy game has been previous leaked, which will supposedly incorporate elements of Splinter Cell, Ghost Recon, and The Division.

With Rainbow Six Extraction and The Division Heartland currently in the works, and the likes of Ghost Recon Breakpoint and Rainbow Six Siege continuing to receive support, Ubisoft’s certainly utilizing its Tom Clancy license to the fullest- but there’s plenty more to come.

The company has announced on Twitter that a new Tom Clancy game is going to be announced tomorrow. The reveal will be streamed worldwide at 11 AM PT, with the title being described as “a brand-new game in the Tom Clancy’s universe.”

“Things are going to get wild,” Ubisoft writes, following it up with a party popper emoji, while the short gif attached to the tweet also has that same vibe. Not very Tom Clancy, but then again, neither are aliens, and we’re getting Rainbow Six Extraction soon.

Earlier this year, a game with the title BattleCat was leaked. It’s allegedly a PvP multiplayer first person shooter that is apparently a Splinter Cell, The Division, and Ghost Recon Breakpoint crossover game. In all likeliness, that’s what’s going to be revealed tomorrow.

Stay tuned, and we’ll keep you updated on any new info that comes our way.

"Skell Technology" pops up yet again in Ghost Recon: Wildlands.

Ubisoft has made a habit out of teasing new things in their current games (they recently teased what is almost definitely the next Assassin’s Creed game in The Division 2), and it seems like they’re doing so yet again. YouTuber Coreross has spotted a tease that might be hinting at an imminent announcement for a new Tom Clancy title.

The newly released content update for Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Wildlands, Operation Oracle, contains a cheeky invitation to attend Skell Con for Skell Technologies on May 9, 2019 at 11.30 AM PDT / 7.30 BST, 8.30 AM CEST , which is literally days away from now.

On its own, that might not have meant too much- but this isn’t the first time Ubisoft have teased something related to Skell Technology in the past. References to the fictional organization have been spotted in Ubisoft’s Tom Clancy games previously, while there’s also an entire hidden website dedicated to the same. Read more about that through here.

Whatever the tease is alluding it – if it is indeed alluding to an actual new game – it is almost definitely a new Tom Clancy title- but beyond that, there’s not much else to go on. A new Splinter Cell game has been one of the most highly demanded games by Ubisoft fans, so most people will be hoping that that’s it, but for now, there’s no way to be sure.

Stay tuned to GamingBolt though, and we’ll keep you updated as soon as we have more info- hopefully on May 9th, as this tease suggests.

The Ubisoft boss reminisces about how the Tomb Clancy license changed the company's fortunes.

Ubisoft has, over the years, developed a veritable lineup of intellectual properties, which ranges across genres and boasts of some of the biggest heavyweights in the industry, from Assassin’s Creed and Far Cry to Rayman and Prince of Persia. But it’d be fair to say that the publisher hasn’t gotten as much out of any single property as much as it has from the Tom Clancy license, which has spawned multiple franchises, each of them more successful than the last.

From Ghost Recon and Rainbow Six to Splinter Cell and The Division, the license has given birth to some exceedingly successful franchises for Ubosoft. Recently, while speaking with IGN, Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot spoke about the same, acknowledging that it was only after their acquisition of Red Storm and the Tom Clancy license that the publisher went from being mid-sized to a major name in the industry.

“The first one that changed the lot of the company was Splinter Cell,” said Guillemot. “We went for the Xbox, and it was a complex bet, and a dangerous bet because they didn’t have many machines [out there]. Launching on that machine and not PlayStation at the time was a bit risky, but we couldn’t go straight on PlayStation. We wanted to use the capacity of the [Xbox]. We did very well on Xbox. We hit probably 50 percent of the install base.”

In the same interview, Guillemot also spoke about Splinter Cell, why the series has been absent for so long, and when we might expect to see more of it. Read more about that through here.

A mysterious new video might be teasing a new unannounced title.

In an interesting new development, Ubisoft might be hinting a new Tom Clancy-related announcement in the future. Fans have spotted references to the fictional Skell Technology in both Rainbow Six: Siege and Ghost Recon: Wildlands (via Gear Nuke), which they have then been able to trace to a website for the same.

The website requires a login from visitors, which fans have been able to deduce as asantos (username) and 10068 (password). Upon using that information to log in, the website comes up with a promotional style video narrated by Jace Skell of Skell Technologies, talking about drones made by the company that can be used for everything from military to health to agricultural purposes.

The video itself doesn’t really hint at any particular series that it might be related to- it could be Rainbow Six, it could be Ghost Recon, or, simply given its nature, it could even be Watch Dogs, though that’s not a Tom Clancy game. Or it could be nothing at all- we can’t really say for sure for now.

Either way, it’s definitely interesting, so take a look below, and stay tuned to GamingBolt for continued coverage.

Tom Clancy's Overload.

If you haven’t already gotten into the Rainbow Six Siege beta (in which case, assuming you were interested in the first place, you really have no excuse, there have been loads of ways to get into it, and all of them relatively easy and unrestrictive), then here’s another shot you get- just get the Humble Tom Clancy Bundle, and you get guaranteed access to the beta.

In addition to the beta access, you also get games like Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six, Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Vegas, Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six 3 Gold, Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell Chaos Theory, and Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon; pay more than the average price, and you also get Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Vegas 2, Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell Conviction Deluxe Edition, and Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell. Finally, pay more than $10, and in addition to all that, you also get Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell Blacklist and Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Future Soldier.

If all those games aren’t enough, you can also pay at least 75 dollars and get a copy of Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege (pre-order), a Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege shirt and a 66% off up to any three Ubisoft titles in the Humble Store coupon, excluding pre-orders.

So yeah, it’s a good deal. If you have even the slightest interest in the Tom Clancy games… why wait?

The legendary author passes at the age of 66.

Earlier this morning it was confirmed via the Twitter of The New York Times’ Julie Bosman that Tom Clancy, best selling author of such novels as Rainbow Six and Splinter Cell passed away last night at a hospital in Baltimore, Maryland. While many of Clancy’s books have been adapted to film, all of us here at GamingBolt know him best for his stories that, once adapted, brought countless hours of fun and excitement to gamers all over the world.

In 1996, Tom Clancy co-founded the development company, Red Storm Entertainment, which was subsequently purchased by Ubisoft. Through Red Storm, well over thirty games solely inspired by Clancy’s concepts have been developed and sold to much acclaim. Among them are the 18 installments in the Rainbow Six series, The 13 installments in the Ghost Recon series, and the seven installments in the Splinter Cell series.

While it is unclear how heavy a hand Clancy played in the development of games once Red Storm was purchased by Ubisoft, one thing is certain: Without Tom, we wouldn’t have any of these epic stories. His death will surely be felt through the the gaming industry, as well as the literary and film worlds.

Blacklist undoes all of the progression Splinter Cell saw in 2010's Conviction, resulting in a disappointing and cynical action stealth adventure.

I played and enjoyed the original Splinter Cell trilogy back when they first graced the original Xbox. They are tough, rewarding and engaging stealth titles, but they have not aged well. 2010’s Splinter Cell: Conviction rewrote the formula to bring Splinter Cell into the modern day and, whilst it had its detractors, it displayed a confident and enjoyable development of mechanics and story.

In short, Conviction showed that Splinter Cell was willing to grow up with its target audience. Blacklist undoes this growth, fusing in old mechanics with the main gameplay of Conviction in an unsatisfying display of confused development vision.

Set directly after the story of Conviction, Sam Fisher is placed in charge of the new Fourth Echelon division in order to stop a series of blacklist attacks a terrorist group plans to make on American soil. Far from the personal and emotionally engaged revenge narrative of Conviction, Blacklist relies on every cliche under the sun.

"The story, predictable as it is, takes you through the expected globe-trotting stages. There is certainly a variety in where you wind up, but the levels lack the memorability of previous Splinter Cell maps. "

Fisher is still cantankerous and gruff but, whilst this seemed like the unfortunate reaction of a desperate man in Conviction, here it just makes him seem like a douche. Add in the loss of Michael Ironside as a voice actor, and Sam Fisher isn’t the same character we knew and loved. He has been reduced from a real person into an action stereotype and cipher, and it’s a sad transformation.

The change in Fisher’s voice also makes him seem like a much younger character, an issue highlighted by his new character model. Anna Grimsdottir also returns looking ten years younger. It begs the question of where this game was meant to fit in to the Splinter Cell timeline. It’s meant to be a direct sequel, but it never feels like one.

New characters Charlie and Briggs join the fray as intel and field ops agents respectively. Charlie is the stereotypical “comedy” character who is the butt of all the jokes. This humour comes off as too predictable and, far from offering a light relief from the action, it just watered down any dramatic tension the limp story almost built up. By comparison, Briggs is the worst character ever in a game. He is every generic soldier rolled into one, and makes even this new Fisher look like an enigma by comparison.

The story, predictable as it is, takes you through the expected globe-trotting stages. There is certainly a variety in where you wind up, but the levels lack the memorability of previous Splinter Cell maps. Level design is fairly robust, with the three gameplay styles being equally viable in each stage.

"Many of the old Splinter Cell gadgets and tactics make a return, with sticky cameras and drones adding in new gameplay opportunities. These are a welcome addition, but the new controls scheme that houses all these complex actions breaks the fundamental success of Conviction. "

You are ranked on ghost, panther and assault points for various levels of subtlety and, whilst this evokes the feeling of gameplay choice, I wasn’t such a big fan of all my moves being boiled down into three fairly simplistic categories. Similarly, cynical sniper and on-rails shooting sections totally remove any of the gameplay options on offer. Even that awful Iraq mission in Conviction had a cool narrative switch up, but Blacklist’s equivalent sidelines are a total waste of time.

Many of the old Splinter Cell gadgets and tactics make a return, with sticky cameras and drones adding in new gameplay opportunities. These are a welcome addition, but the new controls scheme that houses all these complex actions breaks the fundamental success of Conviction. In order to make Splinter Cell more like every other shooter, the cover button is now B. It locks you to cover until you press B again. Conviction used the left trigger, and the smooth analogue controls of sliding in and out of cover allowed you to react to any situation effectively. Blacklist’s cover locking by comparison kills this flow, and too many times I got caught out in cover and was lit up before I could even unstick myself from the wall. Conviction had a rhythm to it, a majestic gameplay grace that Blacklist goes to great lengths to destroy.

In between campaign missions, you are free to walk around Fourth Echelon’s flying base. You can upgrade the base and Fisher’s gear to suit your play style and, whilst there are plenty of options, many of them are a little too easy to acquire. It didn’t take me long to get my perfect loadout, at which time my sense of progression plummeted. The mission map where you progress the campaign is an interesting addition at least. It has the problem of separating the campaign missions so they don’t all feel like a continuous adventure. The upside of this is that all co-op and multiplayer modes are on the same map, making the entire game feel more unified.

It is in these multiplayer modes that Blacklist claws back some of its credibility. Co-op is almost as fun as it was in Conviction, and the combat options suddenly open up with the inclusion of a second player. Many of these side missions throw in cool optional elements like holding off waves of enemies or avoiding detection completely. Coupled with the fact that many of the levels are better designed than they are in the campaign, and you can see where most of your time should be spent. You can also do most of these levels solo, if you’re more of a lone wolf.

"At least, being a blockbuster action title we can expect polished visuals, right? Apparently not. You'll notice the artistic flourishes of Conviction are absent, with the black and white colours to signify you're place in the shadows replaced by a dissatisfying and easily missed light on Fisher's back. "

The big multiplayer addition is the return of the asymmetrical Spies vs Mercenaries mode. Returning from Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory and Double Agent, SvM sees two teams trying to hack or protect data terminals. The hacking spies control like Fisher does in the main game, whilst controlling the defending mercenaries switches you to a first person perspective.

Customisation options and player progression have been added for Blacklist’s multiplayer effort, and these new additions help it to steal the show. Matches are tense, varied and strangely tactical. Here’s hoping a strong community builds up around Spies vs Mercs, as there’s a lot to love here.

At least, being a blockbuster action title we can expect polished visuals, right? Apparently not. You’ll notice the artistic flourishes of Conviction are absent, with the black and white colours to signify you’re place in the shadows replaced by a dissatisfying and easily missed light on Fisher’s back. The levels take the place of the monochrome stealth indicator, posing in all sorts of shades of grey with little interest or colour in sight. Animations are more satisfying, but are ruined by the plastic sheen that ruins all the character models. This is not a game you’ll be playing for looks alone.

Conviction was one of my favorite games of 2010. It redefined the Splinter Cell series with fast stealth action, flowing gameplay and an oddly pointed story about personal revenge. Conviction was like a decent action movie; fun, frantic and at least partially memorable. Blacklist, by comparison, is a mediocre B-movie. It’s not good enough to enjoy, but not so bad that you can laugh at it. It takes everything good about Conviction and totally misinterprets it. It is a sad and disappointing experience seeing how Splinter Cell has devolved and, unless you plan on getting it primarily for the awesome Spies vs Mercenaries mode, Blacklist is a game that is difficult to recommend.

All the information you may need about Splinter Cell Blacklist.

Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell: Blacklist is an action-adventure stealth game developed by Ubisoft Toronto and the seventh installment of Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell series.

The game was originally to be released in March, but was delayed till August 20 2013 for PC, PlayStation 3 and the Xbox 360. The game was also announced and since released on Nintendo’s Wii U, making it the only 8th Generation console that the game launched on. [reference]

Development

Splinter Cell Blacklist goes back to the roots of Splinter Cell, bringing back all the trademark features of stealth, hiding bodies and being rewarded for said stealth, while maintaining Conviction’s fast game-play and the mark and execute feature. The movement, environments and equipment are considered closer to the typical Splinter Cell experience. [reference]

In an interview, Game Director Patrick Redding explained a bit about the gameplay he explained that how your actions as the player will have a different impact on how the game is playing out, and there is so much depth in using weapons and gadgets and using a combination of them to take down enemies, and learning how to use the environment to your advantage, the developers wanted to give the player a wide range of options and multiple paths so that they could know how the game is going play out.

While Conviction forced the player into action sequences, as Sam Fisher had to take down groups of enemies, Blacklist encourages more stealth. Enemies are smarter and more heavily armed this time around. In addition, Sam is more fluid in his movements and can take out multiple targets with great proficiency.

Story

Taking place 6 months after Splinter Cell Conviction, Sam Fisher is now the leader of the newly formed Fourth Echelon and reports directly to the President of the United States. The focus of Fourth Echelon is to permanently shut down all current operations being conducted by Third Echelon and their agents. During this assignment, a group of 12 terrorists commence an ultimatum called the Blacklist – a deadly countdown of increasing terrorist attacks on United States interests. [reference]

The perpetrators are terrorists tired of United States Military presence in two-thirds of countries across the world. Sam and his team must hunt down the terrorist by any means necessary to stop the Blacklist countdown before it reaches zero. Your team comprises of returning Splinter Cell team-mates like Anna Grimssdotter, along with Isaac Briggs and Charlie Cole.

Gameplay

Splinter Cell: Blacklist features many familiar elements. Sam Fisher is able to utilize Mark & Execute in Blacklist. There will also be interrogation and torture sequences (which you control) and sequences where Sam must find the best route through the environment. The game brings back Sam’s infamous tri-focal goggles and the light on his back to indicate if he can be seen or not.

Sam seems a lot more agile than the previous games, with a new feature called Killing in Motion allowing him to strike with lethal accuracy by marking and executing multiple enemies in one fluid motion.

New gadgets include the upgraded snake cam and micro tri-rotor drone which allows Sam to scout ahead, mark targets by a long distance to able to move tactically across the field. It can also be used to distract enemies, or explode, killing anyone close enough. Classic Splinter Cell gadgets also make a return such as the sticky shocker.

For close quarters combat, players can also wield the curved Karambit knife. According to the developers, Sam will again be able to walk in the shadows and will have been able to play through each mission in different styles which includes: Assault, Panther and Ghost. Blacklist comes with a new difficulty called Perfectionist in which the player will not be able to see through walls with his sonar goggles and Mark & Execute will not be functional. [reference]

The player will be aboard and can walk around the Paladin between missions. The Paladin is an upgraded version of the Osprey, which will serve as the main base for all Fourth Echelon operations.

Limited Edition

A limited edition package for Blacklist called the Paladin Collector’s Edition, which contains a remote-controlled plane, the graphic novel Splinter Cell Echoes, the Billionaire’s Yacht co-op map, Upper Echelon Pack (Dead Coast Map), Gold Sonar Goggles and a limited edition poster is also available on pre-order. [reference]

Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon: Future Soldier may not be the most awesome action shooter, but it’s good to see Ubisoft continuing to support it. They’ve announced the Khyber Strike DLC pack, which will be the third DLC pack thus far. The DLC is scheduled for release on October 9th for XBox 360 and October 10th for the PlayStation 3.

What new features await grizzled veterans in this new DLC? Well, Khyber Strike will feature:
– Three new multiplayer maps: Switchback, Palace and Transit
– One new multiplayer game mode: “Takeover”, where you score points for your team by eliminating enemies. Defending objectives and score multipliers add to the points, with the highest scoring team winning.
– One Guerrilla Mode map “Village” (4 players online / 2 players in local split screen)
– New Achievements
– Level cap increase of +10

Sound good enough to venture back into the warzone, especially with Medal of Honor: Warfighter and Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 around the corner? If so, look out for the Khyber Strike DLC to be available for 800 Microsoft points and £7.99 on PSN.
