A new leak has spilled the beans on an unannounced game currently in the works at Ubisoft. Thanks to information and images published on Twitter by Zer0Bytes and DataCluster, details have emerged on “BattleCat” a PvP multiplayer first person shooter currently in the works for PC and consoles, which is apparently a Splinter Cell, The Division, and Ghost Recon Breakpoint crossover game.
Splinter Cell’s Echelon, Ghost Recon Breakpoint’s Wolves, and The Division’s Cleaners are mentioned as playable characters, with each of them having unique abilities and specialties. The Cleaners, for instance, are damage-dealing specialists and can use flamethrowers. Wolves can sustain heavy damage, thanks to their armour. Echelon, appropriately enough, are best at stealth and subterfuge. The Divisions’ Outcasts are also featured as a playable class, as support and healing characters.
The leak also describes two modes- Ringleader, in which players must collect rings from fallen foes to add to their squad’s total score; and Escort, in which one squad attempts to escort a package past checkpoint, while another team attempts to prevent the same.
Zer0Byte’s leak claims that the game began testing in January. VGC also corroborates these details, and further states that the game is still in early development, and will not be announced at the Ubisoft Forward event on June 12.
Of course, the question is whether this will be a premium release or a free-to-play game, similar to the upcoming The Division Heartland. Ubisoft has expressed on multiple occasions that it’s going to put a greater emphasis on the free-to-play model going forward, and BattleCat certainly seems like a good candidate for that.
