Telltale Games had its fair share of troubles over the years, but nothing quite prepared us for when the studio announced “majority closure”. Not only were future projects like Stranger Things cancelled. but ongoing projects were left in doubt. However, it seems that there won’t be any bouncing back – Telltale Games is well and truly shutting down.
GameDaily recently spoke to Sherwood Partners co-founder Martin Pitchinson, whose company is handling the liquidation of Telltale’s assets, and he confirmed the same. A former employee also told the site that health benefits for eligible employees that had been affected would cease on November 30th. Considering that only a skeleton crew remains at Telltale to handle Minecraft: Story Mode, it only seemed a matter of time.
As for Episode 3 and 4 of The Walking Dead: The Final Season, those are being handled by Skybound Games. As the gaming division of Skybound Entertainment, founded by The Walking Dead’s creator Robert Kirkman, it will handle development on the remaining two episodes. Former Telltale developers are even being employed to assist in this.
