Massive Entertainment recently released title update 9.1 for The Division 2, introducing nerfs to several weapons. Alongside it, cross-play between the Stadia and PC versions of the game also recently went live. If, however, you’re hoping that cross-platform play between other versions of the game is also coming soon, you’re going to be disappointed.
Posting on Reddit in a State of the Game update, Massive Entertainment confirmed that though The Division 2 players on Stadia and PC can play with and against each other, cross-play between the PS4 and Xbox One versions of the game isn’t something that’ll be coming any time soon. The studio states that the game wasn’t designed with cross-play in mind, so introducing the same would be a pretty major endeavour for them.
“Stadia and PC have crossplay now. That is not something that will likely happen for consoles any time soon,” the developer wrote. “The game was not made with crossplay in mind, so the efforts to make that happen would be quite big.”
The Division 2 is currently available for PS4, Xbox One, PC, and Stadia. Ubisoft recently announced that it is one of eleven games they have released this console generation that have sold more than 10 million units worldwide to date. Read more about that through here.
