The Division Update 1.2: Rope Cutting, Search and Destroy Missions Explained

Having fun dealing with Rogues? It's about to get a whole lot tougher.

Ubisoft Massive finally dated its upcoming update 1.2 for Tom Clancy’s The Division and it’s introducing a healthy amount of new content including Search and Destroy missions for High Value Targets, a new Incursion with Clear Sky, Sealed Caches in the Dark Zone and a new rope cutting mechanic.

The rope cutting has enough people up in arms. What is it? According to a Q&A on the UbiBlog with Game Director Petter Mannerfelt, “Players will now be able to interrupt an ongoing extraction by cutting the rope to have all the attached loot bags drop to the ground. This means that you will have to defend your extractions to ensure the loot doesn’t get stolen.” He also noted that hijacking an extraction will make you go Rogue, though the issues of high Gear Score players griefing lower level players wasn’t addressed.

Concerning Search and Destroy missions, you’ll essentially battle new enemies in the open world. However, Mannerfelt noted that these missions can be accessed “once all side missions and encounters have been completed.” So get to grinding.

Finally, will there be checkpoints for the new Incursion. Well, yes…after the first encounter. This sounds similar to Falcon Lost wherein surviving the first battle in the sewers activates a checkpoint. Clearly this is what everyone was asking for with regards to checkpoints.

Update 1.2 is out on May 24th for Xbox One, PC and PS4 so stay tuned for more details.
