The Last of Us Part 2 Dev Teases Animation Landmark That He Has Been “Wanting To See In Games For Years”

"And it looks better than I ever imagined," he says.

We have only been drip fed tiny morsels of information about The Last of Us Part 2 for weeks now, most of which has come through Twitter updates, such as performance capture updates. Once again, this new update comes to us via an update on Twitter from one of the game’s devs, but this one is fairly exciting.

Naughty Dog’s Jonathan Cooper, who’s working on The Last of Us Part 2 as an animator, recently took to Twitter to give a shoutout to fellow Naughty Dog animator Michal Mach. Why? Well, because apparently Mach did something to do with animations in the game that Cooper has “been wanting to see in games for years”- and the result, according to Cooper, “looks better than [he] ever imagined”.

Honestly, that’s not hard to believe. In the gameplay demo of The Last of Us Part 2 that Sony showed off at E3 last year, its animations during gameplay and combat were one of the things that impressed everyone the most, so it’s not surprising to see that Naughty Dog is continuing to make strides in that area of the game.

Though there’s been no word on when The Last of Us Part 2 might launch, rumours earlier last year indicated that it might launch in 2019, which is something that recent speculation has re-iterated as well. Meanwhile, we recently learned that the game’s multiplayer offerings might feature character customization and an in-game store. Read more on that through here.
