This year we will get the next blockbuster title from polish publisher/developer CD Projekt RED with Cyberpunk 2077. The hardcore sci-fi game is sure to be something else, but the company came to prominence thanks to fantasy- specifically their adaptations of The Witcher novel series. Well, they haven’t forgotten what brought them into the game.
As confirmed to Eurogamer Poland by CDPR’s Adam Kiciński, after Cyberpunk 2077 launches they will immediately begin working on the fourth mainline Witcher title. He gives no details about it outside of the fact that it will be single player-focused, and seemingly the team has had a concept in mind for the title for a good while.
Kiciński also confirmed that the game will not be called The Witcher 4, which is very much in line with what the studio has said in the past. Meanwhile, he also added that development of the title will be handled by smaller team with CDPR, with the larger studio working on Cyberpunk 2077’s expansions, as well as its upcoming multiplayer mode.
It comes as little surprise as the profile of the franchise has been raised immensely since the Netflix adaptation proved to be huge hit. It was only a matter of time before we revisited that world. But considering they won’t start development until Cyberpunk is out, which won’t be until this September (as long as there’s no more delays), it’s probably going to be a long wait.
